Ah yes. The old "this cartoon is not an accurate depiction of history" argument. Most famously heard during the great Anastasia controversy quite a few years back. In that case, my first clue that it was nothing more than a fantasy was the talking bat. And the musical numbers. With Rasputin. Singing.

I never expect accurate history out of anything that mentions "special" powers and may include the presence of zombies. See, they're not real.

That said, the trailer looks pretty freakin' awesome and I hope to see this series at some point in the future.

Nadya + katana is o.k., because it's just a war trophy from the Soviet-Japanese conflict in 1938, or even Russian-Japanese war of 1904-1905

I don't think so...
Third Reich's national emblem.

It's just a movie, so who care.

Btw.
German emblem - black eagle.
Polish emblem- white eagle.

Words in trailer:
Speaking Moscow
(sweet) Red army general staff
22 June 1941

Looks cool!

They need to make a Band Of Brother type of anime. I think that would sell better.

Well it's not like historical accuracy and fantasy have to entirely exclude one another. In this case, the sword just seemed sort of random at first, given the distinctly Russia versus Germany setting. Anyway, it doesn't matter; the trailer's rad; I can't wait to see undead German knights against Soviet psykers (or whatever they are).

The closest I think that type of thing has ever come to being done -- and probably ever will -- is Flag. Granted, that's a pretty distant comparison, but both series give a realistic depiction of different kinds of war.

Indeed. It always reminds me of the Indiana Jones and The Holy Grail scene when Indy confronts the arab whelding a sword and boasting how great he is with it. Bang! Yeah, whatever.
I was going to say that but i was waiting for the "Those were Scimitars and not katanas" line. You hit it straight on,Mohawk52.

I went and grabbed all the wallpapers from their site. The characters are looking pretty good.

Hope it stay's away from the "I have the Doomsday device, cliche".The series is actually more interesting the further I look into it.

Now don't forget to share this with the US. Very Happy

Yeah, as a Canadian of partially Russian descent this makes me feel at least a little bit patriotic.

This looks pretty sweet. I couldn't really care less if a Russian uses a Katana. It's not exactly likely but not so impossible that it creates a problem. When I want perfectly historically accurate I'll watch the history channel.

The History Channel is the last place you should be looking for historical accuracy.

Actually, it just reminded me of Sengoku's life-sized seagull...

But why a katana...?

If it was a spoil of war she obtained from a dead/surrendered Japanese army officer in the Battle of Khalkhin Gol then it would make sense perfectly. After all, a katana is still the best melee weapon, and a good Soviet soldier should use whatever s/he could find on the battlefield, particularly in the early days of the Great Patriotic War when the Motherland was not yet fully prepared.

Perhaps there is something special about her "powers" that require the use of a sword and/or the sword itself is special. Also, you have to behead zombies. Others in her group are shown using rifles etc.

I think that one of the opponents had an inscription on his sword in the music video.

Actually, the offical website gives it as the Order of the Sacred Sword.

Which part of the word "melee" (or if you are French, mêlée) you don't understand?

I prefer "Fist's of Fury" myself. I usually use the blade on the opponents, not punch them in the face with the hilt.I understand what you meant,no need to whip out the dictionary. Laughing
