They have to have more than ears and a tail to be considered furry. See Krystal from Star Fox.

You must have missed the jaggy outlines on her body. She's all fuzzy too.

To this day, the worst anime I've ever seen was Battle Arena Toshinden.

Toshinden is bad, but nowhere near as bad as half the Buried Garbage entries.

Funny, I remember thinking the edits were pretty blatant on this disc. I'm assuming it was very quick nipple shots (two very quick edits). The music jumped in both cases. I think we're talking about less than 30 seconds in total, if that, of edits. But I haven't got the Japanese VHS or LD, so I can't be 100% sure.

I didn't see that, but I was too busy grimacing and putting my head in my hands, so I wasn't really watching that carefully.

Justin, please look into "Dracula: Sovereign Of The Damned" for a future edition of Buried Garbage. It's a masterpiece of trash. Harmony Gold's dub only adds to the insanity.

That looks great. Any idea where I can find a copy? PM me if you can help.

The edits involved removing every bit of nudity (a fair amount) from the show. I never understood why they went to the trouble of releasing such an obscure show in the US, and then editing out the only reason non fans might watch it. I was pretty surprised when I watched it, and realized how it had been strangely chopped... It was never a masterpiece, but it's far worse in its American form.

Those people seemed to think that they're gong to get shipped to work to North Korea as animators because they worked in this piece of utter crap. Razz

And what was Hirameki thinking when they cut out the only thing that saved this title from total trashdom, WTF!... Rolling Eyes

For some odd reason, I love the Buried Garbage segments on here more than the Buried Treasure. They're so much more entertaining. Razz

Great review, Justin. You had me rolling with the description of the extras. Laughing

Keep'em coming. The Buried Garbage articles are proof that bad anime can be just as entertaining as good anime!

I never heard of this show until I actually saw it on the shelves of Japan Video in San Franciso. I bought it for the Sonoda designs. It was kind of a dumb show, but it would have been a good buy had the anime not been edited. Now that I realize it's been cut, I want to throw it in the trash.

Yeah, I too found the cosplayer extras more disturbing.. (mainly because I haven't seen it you just don't get as much comically bad anime turning up in video shop corners or rentals in the UK, because unfortunataly they only license the ones that have any interest in the US here; we also have less anime or sci-fi conventions, so have to rely in internets.. )

But that bikini picture does clarify why the average-sized westerner just isn't built for cosplay, as if watching the japanese girls from my iaido class getting changed wasn't enough (and yes I am a girl, not a random pervert with a hole in the wall) Smile although that is a particularly cool lopsided bikini she's wearing.

nb. I am drunk. your buried whatever articles are educational as ever
Very Happyx

Must have done that bad in Japan if there is no DVD release for the R2 version. I just wonder, what are all those people doing now who were even involved with the project then. How sad.

Justin, for some reason the PM thing ain't working and your email address isn't listed on the site, so I'll list the info here.

Amazon has a few second hand copies; http://www.amazon.com/Dracula/dp/6302034531/ I'm sure this is the tape as it's animated and it's from Vestron who distributed it in the US. It also got a UK release. Usually it can also be found on ebay, mostly bootlegged DVD-Rs (and not worth the trouble). Failing that, I'm sure Mike Toole might be able to point you in the right direction as Anime Hell uses it a lot in their con panels.

The anime is based on a Marvel comic, "Tomb of Dracula". Marvel had a deal with Toei as they were trying to break into the Japanese market in the late 1970's. Battle Fever J and the live action tokusatsu Spiderman series (where Spiderman naturally has a giant robot) were also made as part of the Toei/Marvel deal.

Dracula itself is pretty funny. There's wheelchair martial arts, a vampire sniffing dog who wears a crucifix and the best scene in the whole film where after Dracula get turned back into a mortal after having a fight with Satan, he robs a couple on the streets of New York and goes to a fast food restaurant and starts eating hamburgers. How this thing got made is beyond me. Apparently it's a fairly faithful adaptation of Marvel's comic.

I've edited it so it makes a bit more sense now.

But I'm serious about the hamburger eating, fight with Satan and everything else in the last paragraph. The thing only runs for about 80 minutes, but it's convoluted as hell. Dracula also has a son (via Satan's bride which he stole from a bunch of Satanists years prior), but the son is accidently killed by the Satanists and then is later resurrected by God to fight Dracula (naturally the son now has superpowers). There's also a bunch of vampire hunters out to get Dracula, whom own the dog who can sniff out vampires. It's pure genius.
