I remember I watched one episode of the anime adaptation back when it came out. I found the fact that the school for super-children is also a prison so creepy I couldn't laugh at all.

Indeed, another anime about government control of magic. The fact that it is a cutesy academy filled with children proud to be bond slaves to the state makes it worse.

I actually found the series to be absolutely adorable. I love that on the surface it seems fluffy, but in reality there is alot of dark stuff going on behind the scenes. I really enjoyed the anime, and am def. interested in the manga. It would be nice to see more anime made one day.

That's an interesting idea. It's certainly unusual to combine Kodocha-style craziness and government oppression...but I just find it incredibly uncomfortable. Narumi is a "not-so-nice person", and I want Natsume to escape.

"I see you haven't fallen in love with me. Here, let me lock you up and throw away the letters you write to your grandfather."

And Higuchi was trying to be cheerful with this one?

I picked this up simply based on the cover because it looked like it might be a lot of fun. I found the manga to simply be one of the more pleasant surprises of any manga I've ever read (I blogged about volume 1 here, if you are bored Razz ).

I think that is what makes this series a little different, the manga has a point where it could just get very dark, heck it could start getting depressed in volume two, but Mikan stays upbeat while seeing what she can do. The art works well for this series, placing the emphasis on the plot and characters, not eye candy.

to be fair that matter was out of his hands, it was one of the higher ups who told him to make sure none of Mikan's letters got mailed, and he did eventually make it up to her by delivering all of her letters in person.

Was I only one who liked the dark aspect of it? Its what kept it from being generic cute fluffy magical girl-esque fodder, and I've seen enough of that Rolling Eyes I've only seen the anime and I really do wish they'd finish it someday, but I guess when I'm a little less busy I can eventually pick up the manga.

I personally loved it, but then again, I loved Kodocha (I immediately compared them), too. I like the dark undertones, it gives us older kids something to look forward to; Kodocha was the same way.

I have to say that I'm enjoying this manga. There are a lot of dark undertones to it but Mikan's cheerful stupidity certainly makes up for that. Not to mention that she is able to make enemies into reluctant friends.

I'm looking forward to seeing the anime...as soon as The Right Stuf announces a release date of something other than December 12, 2012.
