While it doesn't look too bad in motion, I for one don't consider a blockfest and haloing a great transfer. http://img205.imageshack.us/ A random scene taken from the Akira Special Edition DVD, enlarged to 200% with nearest neighbor. |

| Yeah, I was never as impressed by the dvd as the vhs, but I'm hoping it won't be a rush job this time. | ||||

| So the Japanese disc will have English subs, right?
I'm going to buy it if it's true. ^^ |

Considering they already have 5.1 Dolby/DTS tracks from the various remasterings, I have a hard time thinking there won't be some sort of English surround. Lossless does seem too much to hope for though. As this has never been an ooh-ahh title for me, I'll hold off the upgrade as long as it takes for the price to come down in general retail. Not exactly up on international shipping rates, but there does seem to be enough of a gap to allow for cheaper reverse-importation. I'm guessing it's just not enough to be worth the added time and hassle. |

Yeah, they kill you on the shipping. Why not just preorder it instead? Loads of preorder discounts around or wait for a studio sale, preorder it then and really save on it. |

| That's not technically an error, since they said "international" sensation when first released in 1990. | ||||

| I hereby necropost this thread with an advanced screening review of the Blu-ray release:
http://www.dvdbeaver.com/ Not only does it look a helluva lot cleaner than the remastered DVD, but it has lossless audio in TrueHD 5.1 for both Japanese and English. No word on extra features since this a "sample," but I have to say this definitely looks worth the price for anyone wanting an HD version of this classic title. |
