Maybe but I've decided that downloading just isn't for me. I prefer English dubbed anyway.

To paraphrase Richard J., were you forced to watch it? Did Fuko threaten you with a starfish? Did Tomoyo beat you up? Was the might of the "Dango Daikazoku" simply too overpowering?
Whoa, I'm being paraphrased. Sweet. Cool

As someone who loved AIR and Kanon both, I'm extremely excited for this license (though I'm still not sure I believe it given the lack of additonal confirmation) and I'm looking forward to finding out if it will live up to my expectations or not.

Basically, he finds Tomoyo (and possibly the portrayal of Sunohara) offensive on a fundamental level, and is chagrined at how people can support/praise that kind of misandric humor. He doesn't need to watch the show to identify what they're presenting (woman beats up weak male loser without receiving punishment in return. Audience laughs).

It's like declaring a love for violent porn in front of staunch, outspoken feminists. You can't help but draw impassioned reactions (especially if said content becomes popular as more people buy, love, and discuss it) because it offends their core sensibilities. To vent their frustrations, they'd do everything they could to attack that kind of product, along with customers/producers.

I don't share Tyrenol's viewpoint (I can sympathize with it a little though), but I can see why he's passionate with his criticism, even if it achieves nothing. Psychologically speaking, it's beyond a matter of mere taste,

But the difference is that this is not a typical "woman beats up weak male loser without receiving punishment in return. Audience laughs". Sunohara is the one attacking Tomoyo and she only defends herself and she's never happy about it or anything, and for that you at least have to watch a bit of the series. Personally I thought it was a pretty poor running gag, making Sunohara look more stupid than he actually is and also Tomoyo more violent than she is / wants to be. ^^;

Thank you.

But at the end of the day, there's nothing I can do. I can't stop companies here in Japan from making the wrong decisions.

I'll have to apologize to everybody. I can't be sheeple and hop on the bandwagon everybody's riding; going "HOORAY!! WHOOPEE!! SNICKERING FAT GUY HAD LICENSED ANIME THAT GODLY ANIMATED YET CONTAINS HORRIBLE SCRIPTING!!" I just can't allow myself to stoop that low.

Honestly: The last good anime based on a dating sim was To Heart. And I'm saddened that companies won't reach that level of anime-creating anymore.

Of course it's not going to happen; I wish for the day when KyotoAnimu gets firebombed and burns to the ground, "anime that treats men like garbage" and all.

The the person who was talking about "Looney Tunes?" Last I checked; they'd been slowly phased out of existence save what's on YouTube and DVD. "Slapstick humor" is a lost art; it should not be utilized by people who think that it's funny to hurt people outright and repeatedly.

So two-three days later is it still unconfirmed what Clannad license has been picked up? Story hasn't been updated and I don't see a press release...

...I don't know about anyone else, but to me its beginning to look like Tyrenol doesnt want to watch Clannad because A GUY GETS HURT (even in a slapstick way) BY A GIRL.
I'm sorry if this is wrong, but sheesh, it sounds like you can't stand the thought of your superior gender getting owned by a mere woman or something.

That wouldn't explain why he thinks Kanon (and maybe Air?) is garbage, too.

Also, I kind of agree with Tyrenol in general about the misandrony (how is it spelled? Firefox doesn't recognize the word), but in Clannad, Sunohara is asking for it. This isn't Love Hina, where the girls are thrashing a hapless loser for having bad luck, Sunohara openly challenges Tomoyo before getting his ass handed to him. And what about the times he's the victim of one of Tomoya's pranks, or the football/rugby/whatever team treats him as a chew toy? That's not male-bashing.

AFV is still on the air, so slapstick humor certainly isn't as dead as you think it is. Also, have you heard of the show, "My Name is Earl"? It's pretty popular, and it's pretty full of slapstick. With very little effort, I'm sure you could find plenty more examples, but that would shatter your self-righteous illusion, so you won't.

I can't remember if he said that or not...it's just this is the point he keeps bringing up. Continously. Even though everyone has long explained/told him otherwise.

Hay Tyrennol I saw this clip on youtube from Pokemon (the japanese version, anyway) where James (I can't remember his japanese name) had BOOBS. Obviously, judging from this clip, all over-nine-thousand episodes worth of Pokemon are about guys with boobs.

It's ironic, because until then I tend to hear nothing but how bad the To Heart anime is. However, I haven't seen it, so unlike Tyrenol I will not pass judgement on a series I have never seen. Could be the bees knees for all I know.
Buuuut this thread isnt about To Heart, so this post is kind of useless.

Supposedly Greenfield confirmed his announcement with this activeanime site:
http://www.activeanime.com/html/content/view/3928/36/

It seems quite odd that they'd confirm the license to activeanime and not confirm to ANN, however, but reading the fine print it wasn't ADV itself, but Greenfield who confirmed his own announcement.

Perhaps he's the only person at ADV who knows that they've licensed it Smile?

My guess is they are still cleaning up from that hurricane, and just haven't had the time or just plain forgot to put out a proper press release. Especially if a lot of staff took time off to clean up and repair their own property.

i'm pretty much in the same boat... i haven't seen clannad or the end of kanon for that matter... it's not that i'm really fore or against downloading stuff that's not licensed... i just couldn't be bothered trying to keep up with all the latest stuff from japan... as many people often lament... there's a lot of shows out there that aren't worth the time and effort it takes to download them (and yet they still do... huh?)...

if it's good... it'll get licensed and i can buy it on dvd... it's all good... i loved Air... Kanon is alright... spoiler[but yuichi being the solution to every girls problems again and again is getting a bit old after the 3rd one... i was hoping kitegowa would step up for kouri's one at least... but alas... yuichi stole his thunder...] but it'll stay in the collection once i get the last disc later this month...

don't know anything about clannad, bar the odd animated gif which i eventually figured out are from it... i'll buy volume 1 on blind faith and give it a go... and see what happens... i never really follow the hype... after not liking haruhi very much at all... i've learned that not everyone likes the same things... but again... we'll see...

i haven't seen to heart either... might have to stick it on the list of older stuff to take a look at...

as for you Tyrenol... i think you have some issues... maybe your mother used to beat you when you were growing up or something... but if you're making youtube video's of (granted... cartoon) girls being hog tied with a gun to their head, and you're proud of it... you should really seek professional help...

cos, if you think it's really bad to see a guy get beaten up by a girl for the sake of comedy... but think summary executing high school girls is cool... then you've got some serious double standards there mate...

EDIT: oh, it's confirmed then... tip top... nice one ADV....

If you make any more sweeping generalizations, you'll get mistaken for a broom and get shoved in a very small closet somewhere.

You've obviously never watched Wile E. Coyote, Abbot and Costello, or Animaniacs. Looney Tunes brand of humor has never been "phased out"; it's simply taken different forms. But then, you wouldn't know jack about it because you're too busy preaching the evils of one scene of slapstick in an anime you've never watched! Rolling Eyes

Besides the fact that tylenol hates to see a guy beat up by a girl (maybe it's not many, I don't know), he hasn't even seen clannad, and only goes by clips he saw of Sunohara getting owned.

1. Sunohara does not only deserve it, he actually ASKS for it. Tomoyo never attacked him. He just jumps her every time he sees her.

2. This is ANIME FFS. Yes, in real life, it would be disturbing, but Sunohara gets up 10 seconds later, like nothing happened, and is still friendly with Tomoyo (when not attacking her). Don't bring real-life logic in an anime. The simple fact that Tomoyo is THAT strong in the first place is unreal.

As for the licence.....good for ADV, best of luck

Do you think that they'll keep the Japanese honorifics in the dub (and the sub)? I really hope so... I can tolerate it when they don't, but it would really get on my nerves if they dropped them, since Clannad is my favorite Embarassed

Do you REALLY need honorifics in dubs? Language-mixing is BAD, and not something you want to do if you can avoid it. I remember Geneon doing this language-mixing with Ai Yori Aoshi, and I don't see any other reason to do this other than to appease the elitist weeaboo neckbeards who think that the Japanese language is Holy Writ and must never be altered. Nor should honorifics ever be used in subtitles. The point of a translation is to TRANSLATE everything into smooth English, not pick and choose, saying "Oh, it can't be translated" and leave it as it is. The relationships clarified by honorifics in the Japanese audio are implied in the English dub and subtitles anyway, so you're not missing much.

Well they need to keep the whole Kotomi-chan thing. Like someone said, it won't make any sense other wise...

And if they come up with some weird nickname, granted I would not care, others might.

That probably is the only honorific they need to keep.
