Apologies then though the handle Bamboo Dong is deceptive and I blame that. |
It's not a handle. |
*sigh* Well, then, I shall say no more so as not to continue to unintentionally insult. |

| I have yet to hear anything good about the animated version of Negima, so, as Bamboo suggests, I will stick with the manga. At least the manga seems to be moving more toward focusing on plot and character development and less on adolescent nakedness. |

Ah, Claymore. I may not like the anime as much as the manga, but I enjoyed it quite a bit. Of course, the anime ending diverges from the manga, and some people hate that, but I still found the anime ending ok.
As much as I love the series, I do admit that both the manga and anime start of a bit slow in some ways. It seems to be the flashback arc that hooks a lot of people, be they reading the manga or watching the anime. |

Also, no mention of the new art style? That's a pretty significant point, considering the OVAs act a little bit as a preview for the second series. |
I have to agree, if only because I'm an Akiyuki Shinbo fanboy. The art style is the only thing these OVAs have going for them. |

It's not three for sure, and it is not 2 or 1. Maybe its' a different verison or just volume 4's cover art with just 3 labeled on it.
|
Lucky Star has always had different covers for the regular and special limited editions. For some reason, for volume 3, regular edition copies were shipped with the limited edition cover art. (That's the art with the heroic salesmen.) Shelf Life's picture is of the regular cover. I haven't seen the regular cover on an actual DVD. |
I'm confused. What verison is the limited cover art? Is the one show in the article or is the one with Konata and those strange store employees that tried to make her buy something, because I have that one. |
I'm sorry, I think I am also confused. Certainly on both Bandai Entertainment's and RightStuf's web sites, they give the cover art that appears on Shelf Life, for the regular edition. Like you, I have the cover with those store employees on it, instead. This image (with the store employees), in turn, appears on Bandai's pictures of the limited edition outer box. But that probably doesn't correspond to the cover of the actual DVD case of the limited edition. The limited edition covers seem to actually be childish-appearing crayon drawings.
My new guess is that they changed their minds at the last minute about which of the Japanese release cover art to use for the Region 1 release. (Since there are fewer episodes per DVD in Japan than here, they could pick and choose.) |

Actually, my copy of Lucky Star 3 also has the store employees. Maybe there's an alternate cover? |

| I am torn between buying the individual releases of Claymore and waiting for the box set. While the box set will be cheaper and take up less shelf space there is the possibility that if a lot of people do this Funi will think no one likes the series due to low sales. |

Buy the individual releases. Honestly, if this were other media I'd say it's not our job to care but here I think it's obvious that the dollars count. If we don't spend more on the good series we'll get more mediocre ones. |

Well, Claymore seems to be one of the shows that they decided to do single releases of, meaning they're expect more people buying. Eventually they'll release a boxset unless they die or something else happens..Claymore is a huge and popular manga/anime, so it'll get around to the boxset eventually, which is what I'm waiting for. Single releases are for chumps.

Oh man, this is so tired and dead and only ever affected one show. Even if we buy a show in droves, it will almost never influence a studio to make more like it, since they care about their precious Japanese audience first, and those filthy gaijins way down the road. Wow, so Big O got a second season, and it was a pile of crap. I'd suspect that Japanese don't care about feedback except that FUNi made enough money to license more shows they've made and aired on TV already in Japan, thus completely irrelevant to how we bought stuff. Most second seasons of shows only get funded by the Japanese DVD sales I'd imagine.

Lucky Star is a bit less accessible than your regular comedy, since it has so many anime and game parodies, you don't have to watch the specific anime they're paroding I think(Though it helps), but you have to have played a lot of games and watched a lot of anime to understand the life style Konata represents, and her jokes. That said, there's still a lot of regular life stuff they parody. It's not exactly a laugh out loud series, but whenever I watch, I'm always wearing a stupid grin. It's pretty intelligent but also pretty dumb, in that it offers a good deal of insight on some pretty mundane things. If you liked the previous episodes, it's definitely shelf worthy, this series gets better the more you watch because you understand the humor more and more, but if you didn't find the first few episodes at least entertaining and watchable, I would probably not recommend it, the humor might be better, but it is still based on the same type of humor.
As far as Kanon 6 being shelf worthy or not, I thought that most people actually loved the series. As far as dramas and romance goes which barely get much exposure in the states, I think it's one of the most well liked series to come along in a long time. Despite what the author says, it actually has a relaxed, easy going feel half the time and the drama is done in a good manner, it's strong and emotional, but it doesn't leave you depressed so that the next episode won't be able to get you smiling again. There's plenty of foreshadowing, and you can see they build up a story for each character from the very first episode. It's very well done, the characters are multi-faceted and likable. I thought the girls were believable in their actions, I mean, you don't get the feeling that the girls are hanging all over him like in a harem or a angsty romance, usually it's Yuuichi who goes to meet them rather or they bump into one another rather than the other way around.

Glad to see Claymore up there, it always makes me happy when I see one of my pre-orders on the list. |
That's a Freudian excuse if I ever heard one...
On the topic of Claymore, I get weepy. I cried for so many of the characters in the final arc.
There was so much missed opportunity. Oh, but it's totally worth checking out anyway.

Re:Claymore, Don't cry yet...read the manga
Anyway, I'd definitely deem LS shelf-worthy; it's one of those "pick up and watch any time, ANY episode" kind of shows that just a lot of fun. I guess it's not for everyone, especially casual anime fans who won't understand half the references in it...but most of us will (the "even TV's becoming like 2ch" skit is my favorite)
Kagami's これは日本語なのか? (Is this even Japanese?) line is most of what's going through my head when I read anything out of 2ch or on Nico-nico |

I tried watching Lucky Star.
x.x I don't understand how people could get brainwashed into this series... Oh well. I think it's so stupid.
^__^; I've only watched 3 episodes so far.
Tell me, does it get better, or will I start liking it a few episodes later? |

No, it's basically same for all 24 episodes. |

Wrong.
FYI, they changed directors after Episode...4 I believe. First 4 episodes were directed by Yutaka Yamamoto, the guy who directed the "Someday in the Rain" episode of Haruhi which most people found pointless (but I enjoyed). The rest of the series was directed by Yasuhiro Takemoto (Full Metal Panic 2 and Fumoffu fame) and the pacing is a LOT better, rivaling the amusement and sporadic hilarity of shows like Azumanga.
The trap most people fall into not knowing this is that they think the rest of the show is like the first 4 episodes...watch ep 5, or episode 6 (one of my favorites) and then call it |
