Yugi Yamada is under-rated by American BL fans, yet is one of the best out there. Maybe that's because of her art, which isn't to everyone's tastes I think. But her stories often ring true to life. I love her books.
I wasn't aware that she'd been Takaguchi's assistant. That explains a lot. |

I'm so glad BL is starting to get more reviews, and Don't Blame Me is ridiculously good.

I remember reading the postscript in the end of (I believe) the fifth volume of Shout Out Loud! and I was surprised to see her name as an assistant - but she also did an extra small comic with the characters and it was interesting seeing Takaguchi's characters drawn in Yugi Yamada's style. |

YAY!! Let's hear it for the Yamada-sensei love!
She is my absolute favorite BL mangaka, followed very closely by her mentor Takaguchi-san. Her stories are so emotional and yet sometimes so silly, but the feelings of her characters are real. I also like that her ukes are not girly or chicks with d**ks, but even the prettiest ones are still very male, look male, act male (which means occasionally really realy stupid) and never drop into coyness. In fact, I think she does the 'pissy ice queen' type the best of anyone in the biz! |
