GOOD LORD!!!
Words cannot describe how wonderful that collection is!!!
That will BE MINE someday!!
I hope I marry an otaku wife, although I have a fetish for tomboy chicks with flat chests, who dress, act, and speak like guys, with long hair of course, maybe a ponytail (spiked) and also dig giant robots (think the theme to Megas XLR) I know I have a weird fetish !!
But then again to quote Mayumi Thyme from SHUFFLE! and Konata in episode 4 of Lucky Star, "A flat chest is a STATUS SYMBOL, extremely rare and VALUABLE!!!" |
Your reaction deserves a gold star. No, two gold stars! NO! A whole CABINET OF STARS!
I'm an otaku girl, lol. Although I hope you're tolerant of yaoi, shoujo, and shoujo-ai. |
You can bet , I'm tolerant of shoujo, yaoi, and shoujo-ai!!
Frankly I love Shoujo, Yaoi, and Shoujo-Ai!!
In fact I'll watch pretty much any demograpic or genre of anime, and read pretty much any demographic or genre of manga | Leon Evolon wrote: | Wow, that's an impressive collection there. I'd have to agree with the keeping the original cases -- the discs are too vulnerable without them and the case art is nice to look at too -- maybe I'm just a pack-rat.
Two questions:
1. Are all those CDs stacked to the right of the game shelves fansubs?
2. Where's the Lucky Star?!?! |
Yeah, I agree Lupin, where is the Lucky☆Star?

When it's a choice between a collection and economic survival, I understand sacrificing the collection, at least on a piece by piece basis. It's the disdain and complete lack of respect that some people show for the interests and hobbies of people they claim to love that bothers me.
Perhaps I have odd ideas about relationships but it seems to me that the least a person could do if they want to be in a relationship with someone is refrain from making fun of their interests (since that is just making fun of them by default.) |

Hi everybody. I'm the co-owner of this week's collection (the male half). Thank you all for the awesome compliments and feedback! I feel like a bit of an ass responding in here right now, but some of you had some really good questions that I wanted to answer.
The first thing I'll address is the TV. It's small, it's old (circa 1995), and it no longer has a remote, but it has the nicest colours I've ever seen on a TV. We hope to retire it the near future. We have a bigger TV in another room, but we rarely watch anime on it.
The entire collection is opened. We are absolutely anal about the quality of our DVDs and protect them like they are investments. We keep the wraps on boxes to protect the boxes from shelf-wear, cutting around the openings to access the discs. We also didn't mention this to Bamboo because we didn't want to sound like total freaks, but we actually make "watching copies" of our discs for viewing and lending. We have copied almost all of them. We only have about 3/4 of a bookshelf to go.
| Quote: | | Though it must suck to add dvds into it when everything's organized alphabetically; a full shelf equals the rest movin' on down the line until the very end (or space is found to be had). That's a lot of shuffling if you're adding into, say, the B's. Laughing |
Elves: Yes. Yes it is and yes it does.
Leon Evolon: The jewel cases stacked beside the video games are empty. Our DVD backups were in them, but then switched to spindles and had nothing to do them. On an unrelated side note, Sharla hand-drew and hand-coloured the framed Sorcerer Hunters reproduction. That's why I included it.
kittycatgirl2k: I would say that between the two of us, we've watched roughly about 1/3 of it. Unfortunately that's one of the collection's dark secrets - we spend more time acquiring it than enjoying it (although acquiring is part of the enjoyment ). The other dark secret is that we've chosen to forgo children in favour of anime so unfortunately we will not be adopting any of you any time soon. As far as our tastes go, Sharla and I are pretty much on the same page with the exception of maybe a handful of titles. We've really lucked out in that respect, although I started out like your current S/O so it hasn't always been a rosy path.
I also wanted to say that this week's Shelf Life was awesome as usual. We've wanted Ouran ever since it was announced so it's nice to see that it'll be worth the wait! |

My favorite part of that entire collection is the fact that they have Killer Bunnies. That's my favorite card game ever.
The video game collection makes me wish I had saved all of the game boxes from my Game Boy and N64 games.
Awesome collection! Keep it going! |

| Who Is This Guy!? wrote: | | Asrialys wrote: | | Who Is This Guy!? wrote: | On the outside...that looks like a massive anime collection, but when you look at it, you start to notice things.
First off, half of that collection is half-assed. As in, half of it are mediocre, or outright BAD titles. And in this day and age, that's one of the things that pisses me off about anime fans: They just don't give a shit about quality as much, as long as it looks and plays like anime, IT MUST BE PURCHASED.
...However, they got the uber limited print of Escaflowne TV series...so I partly forgive them |
I think that's all up to personal tastes. |
If everything was up to personal taste, we wouldn't have ratings, reviews, and critics. |
Sorry, but that's ridiculous. While I haven't done any real reviews for anime (do blog about it, though), I have reviewed music / books / dvds as a critic on a couple of sites. And I can honestly say that even though I love critics (and the act of critiquing) dearly, we are full of BS and most of it DOES boil down to personal taste. With music (and any other consumable media) my opinion is that it isn't about the product as much as it is about the person. What does the DVD or CD or book say to the person watching/listening/reading? THAT is what matters. There are traits that different people are drawn to more than others: most people would hate a lot of the music I love because I look for music that is really creative, avant-garde, and strange. More than once have I played something for a friend, only to have them proclaim, "That isn't even music!" I just sort of look at them mournfully, cite the awesome definition of what music is that I learned from my music professor (essentially, "the deliberate organization of sound," though he phrased it much better and with greater detail)... to which they invariably reply, "but this doesn't even sound like music." Sigh. Still, it is what I enjoy and resonate with... and anime is the same way. Different people look for different things and jive with various elements in anime-- thus a rating is really only indicative of the person who made the rating... that is all. Review writers can convey information about the series that is helpful for a prospective buyer... but it all boils down to what each individual person is looking for or interested in.
(ugh, this post is long, and probably not too helpful. But I deleted about half of it, so it is better than it had been. That's for sure.) |

I'm............scared.
On a side note, if the girl is a tomboy who dresses, acts, and speaks like a guy- why would they have long hair? Maybe I'm just channeling serious stereotypes, but it doesn't make sense to me, if they like boyish things, wouldn't the long hair metaphorically/physically weigh them down? I'm going to shut up now for further playing on stereotypes. Feel free to hit me.
Before I dived into the seductive world of anime, my sister would watch cowboy bebop in the morning- before school no less o__O And also I would wander into her room while she was watching Ouran or Azumanga Daioh, so of course since my sister is "lame" I never wanted to watch any of the shows, but I find cowboy bebop to be good, azumanga daioh- eh. But I have yet to watch Ouran hopefully I like it as well |

I saw those shelves and nearly cried in joy because of the sheer awesomeness of it.
My collection will NEVER I mean NEVER rival that collection unless I either find a handful of cash to buy a bunch of anime or I find a girlfriend who loves anime like I do. |

| So you're leaving me to assume that yes, you did spend about $800 on Sailor Moon, at least $300 on CCS, and several thousand on the last two discs of Aura Battler Dunbine?.... |

If you've watched anime, played TV games (video games), and read manga, as long as long as I have, you'd realize how anime kind of inspires our tastes in certain things, seriously |
