I...I don't know what to think. While I'm excited about this, at the same time I'm extremely skeptical Sad

Only time will tell...

The only one I want directing Ninja Scroll is Ryuhei Kitamura. [Well, ok, maybe that 300 guy too...] I'm surprised that the rights went to WB, though, since I remember the company which produced MK was supposed to be doing it. Interesting idea, but unless they're at least willing to go 300 with it, it won't work. And the American film industry doesn't need to rape the original, since MadHouse already ruined it with that half-assed tv show. But, hey, there's always a chance for them to turn it into another Chun Li or Last Samurai. Rolling Eyes I imagine the company got the rights, since it figured it was way in over its head with Akira, and they figured Ninja Scroll will cost less.

krown: What worked with TDK was WB opting for the opposite approach to what didn't work with Superman Returns. It's a shame WB probably won't do that again, though, since Watchmen will probably disappoint, and no one wants to take that kind of a chance on a niche property.

Bashing on Watchmen again? Rolling Eyes

Really, you never cease to diminish the brain cells of others.

Well, one benefit to having Ninja Scroll backed with a Hollywood budget may be the make-up and creature/digital effects. Other than that, I'm not sure what to make of this news. The real clincher for me is who the producers target as the director and cast.

By the way, anyone remember that Rain-led Ninja Assassin movie that's due in theaters at some point? It's success may play some small role in the direction DiCaprio's Ninja Scroll goes in. Funnily enough, many had speculated in the months prior that the Wachowski produced film was some kind of "hush-hush" adaptation of Ninja Scroll which is also stars Rick Yune, Sho Kosugi and Sung Kung.

Guess some folks can cross Rain off their wish-list of possible leads. Unless he's looking to carve out some Hollywood niche as the preeminent, go-to-guy for ninja flicks.

Of course there's always the chance that they'll say: "Oh, Ninja Scroll's got ninjas, like that Naruto thing that's so popular with the kids these days. Maybe we should aim for something like that." Razz

I just had the mental image of Sasuke giving Naruto the evil grin and saying, "don't think I wouldn't rape a dead girl!"

Sure to please parents everywhere.

Not having been a huge fan of the original (even less the tv series) I must say that I'm pretty unmoved by this announcement. I expect it to be bad, of course. They almost always are. But taking those expectations into something always pays off, if it turns out to be better, for me at least, so here's to the months/years of expecting Ninja Rubbish. Cool

Guy: Actually, while I'm not a fan of the comic, I am hyped about the Watchmen movie. But everyone knows it's a huge risk for the studio, since it's not really a "superhero" movie.

Bob: Actually, everyone was speculating that, but I'm not surprised it isn't, since I think the Wachowskis are in their "do something from scratch" phase right now. Anyway, my pick for Jubei would be Asano.

Wouldn't that come from that perverted guy who teaches Naruto after Kakashi? Wink

Wicked City getting the live-action treatment? That's downright scary when you think about it. Shocked

If we put out 10 live action anime movies, we'll eventually get a good one right?

Seriously though, I liked Speed Racer. Is it one of my top movies? Do I recommend it to everyone? No. But I was entertained and impressed.

Word's still out on DBZ with all the information leaked on it...hopefully that stuff is fake or just REALLY bad, coming off the actual work they've done on the movie.

I'd love for this to be good and do well. Anything to make sure anime doesn't absolutely die in the states(retail wise).

No spoiler[Ninja Girl Kagero being molested and raped, which leads to the very important plot point that her body is poisonous and has an Antidote quality that helps cure Jubei of being blackmailed by Dakuan thru a poisoned shuriken], no dice.

Knowing Hollywood, they'd be big pussies and try to find a more "friendlier" route of sorts.

I recommend we all jump to the immediate conclusion that it will be the absolute worst thing ever and will ruin (or rape as some of you prefer) the franchise based on no actual information. Yes, I think that would be best course of action. That way we all get to spend the time until it comes out so laughing at those foolish rational folk who wait and see and say I told you so if it sucks. Best of all though, if it turns out to be good we will all be to busy enjoying an awesome movie to care that we were wrong. It's win win really.

Or if knee jerk pessimism isn't your cup of tea one could always take the stance that like most adaptations, it has the potential to be good but only assuming they give it a decent budget and don't dumb down or remove the aspects that made it good in the first place which may ar may not happen. We don't really know at this point.

I agree. That way if it's anything other than "gouge my eyes out with hot pokers" bad we'll all be pleasantly surprised.

That said.. I'm a bit mixed on this. I think it has a better shot of adapting well than some of the other anime adaptions coming up, so.. knock on wood and hope for the best.
