Ah, [This URL is a known bootlegging website]...
I know them. Back in the day when I was naive I bought a lot of anime from them and thisisanime (which I swear is a branch off of it)... I was very disappointed to find that they were all bootleg. I bought numerous sets from them all at the same time and realized it after receiving them. Well, they get what they deserve. I definitely do not think that Funimation will be getting quite as large a settlement from them though.

Go Funimation! I'm pretty happy to see that they are willing to pursue this.

Hooray Funi, indeed. Bootleggers are bastards. Bastard covered bastards with bastard filling.

I also don't think they'll recover all of that money, but as long as they get their court costs back I'll be happy. They're sending a good message, and if they do end up with $28.785M, that's just gravy. And I can't say I'd be sad if this suit bankrupts that guy.

It depends really. Can you run a company from prision?

Some people run very successful "pharmaceutical" operations from prison, but admittedly it's harder to get DVD writing equipment up your ass. Wink

I used to by from [This URL is a known Bootlegging website]. I only bought hard to find titles, and only a few volumes and they were legit as well as a keychain. It was obvious which ones were bootlegs, and they had plenty. It seemed like they sold more bootlegs that legit R1 DVDs. It serves them right. And, if the site gets shut down, there is always ebay if there is an item that is hard to find. Cool

Finally... >_>;;;

I think their site was my first discovery of bootleg DVD. I ordered my Sailor Moon S box set, though I didn't know at the time what an "import" was, it included both English and Japanese audio.

....I was definitely not a happy person. But yes.

>.>; I attempted to stop a seller from advertising bootleg dvd on a site sponsored by ANN, the website shut them down, though I think he relocated to ebay.

But wow, $23.8 million dollars? damn.

But it's funny, they tried to do a cop out with a server host in North Korea. I guess they thought the law still wouldn't apply to them. >_>; A valiant but failed attempt.

This is significantly different than fansubbing. it would have been in Funimations best interest to take serious, immediate legal action, not cease-and-desist letters. illegally distributing bootleg copies of DUBBED shows is just wrong, dude.

o_o er, you know that the DVD contained both English and Japanese audio, right? If they made copies of sub-only dvds (And anime companies do release sub only DVDs on occasion) it would've suffered the same fate. Or I'd hope so.

Don't be surprised if there are sites already selling Naruto Shippuden box set with English subtitles. It's most likely bootlegged from fansubs. xD [this is an example of an anime, ne...I don't know how far Shippuden has gotten, or care to know.]

xD hehe, ebay is probably one of the worst places too. You won't believe how many fake copies they sell of hard to find DVDs. Sailor Moon has to be the worst of all.

I wonder if this has anything to do with DeepDiscount removing all Funimation boxsets, too.

Unrelated, probably. FUNimation had box sets "discontinued" at the same sale last year, and suddenly they became "available" again. FUNi probably just doesn't want lose movie through that retailer.

As for this retailer, I bought a copy of No. 5 volume one some time ago. (It was the only place that sold it new.) Otherwise I've never had any dealings with them -- the bootlegs were too obvious.

Even if FUNimation wins, there's no way they're gonna get a cash settlement that big.

It's mainly a punitive action designed to hit this guy as hard as possible. They're also hoping it deters others from doing the same.

I'm extremely happy the stupid bootleg sites are going down the crap hole with lawsuits. I bought from [This URL is a known bootlegging website] before and they sent me bootlegged japanese w/eng subs dvds and I got a full refund at least from the idiots. These sites deserve to pay every penny Funimation is demanding and their customers should get refunds.

Damn. I bought a lot of legit DVDs from [This URL is a known bootlegging website]; I was usually able to save a few bucks that way, and they almost arrived within two days due to our relative proximity. I'm extremely disappointed that they never got rid of their bootlegs, because now they're in this mess and it seems I've lost one of my most reliable suppliers.

Shoot, I think I have an outstanding order with them, too.

Bah! I remember I bought an Elfen Lied set there for around $20 and it was bootlegged. Terrible quality and the subs were broken EVERYWHERE!

Don't worry they didn't steal fansubbers work. They made their own Translations that would make 4kids cry. Spelled the names wrong, completely wrong translations, untranslated lines, etc.

I bought quite a few imports in one order before I realized what they were. I can't even watch them though they suck that much. I hope I can get my money back if this lawsuit pans out. I did notice my copy of Hellsing had English options though when I was looking through them. But it was an"All Code" too so you know it is a bootleg.

I don't mean to be rude, but what did you think you were getting for $20.00? Any anime set selling for $20.00 is either a bootleg or just a crappy anime.

I have bought countless things from DADVD but nothing has ever been bootlegged. It was pretty obvious what was and wasn't a bootleg on the set but still I will sad to see the site go as they had great sales with 40% off quite often and almost all the stuff they sold via those sales was legit.

This annoys me as I had some pre orders for a few figure through the site and if they are gone I don't know where I would be able to pick them up.

man i would be sad to see them go. I have always known they sell bootleg dvds but i stayed away from those. I only buy mangas from them.

I brought most of my manga from them.

discounted manga + $100 + free shipping = sweet!
