More like "neo-conservatism is evil and let's draw eye-rolling, sledgehammer allusions to the Bush administration that satiates the more base desires of some leftists."

The graphic novel isn't up there with Moore's best work, and my political leanings are more to the left, but the movie adaption is just laughable. It reeks of the kind of pandering that 9/11 conspiracy theorists get off on.

That said, to get on-topic: I'm far more optimistic about Ninja Scoll and Akira than, say, Ghost in the Shell. Both are capable of getting a sufficient look with the right budget and director, and I can't see the content being a problem if they go all-out both. (Plus, I'm curious to see how they transfer the original Akira manga onto the big screen.)

Cool that DiCaprio is an anime fan, too, I guess.

Hellkorn: Actually, in spite of A.I. and Transformers, I still have more confidence in GITS than Ninja Scroll. Akira would have to avoid being like a live-action Tekkon Kinkreet, in order to not suck.

actually it'd be more accurate to compare it to Blade Runner and The Matrix, both are pretty good films (the first Matrix anyway)

Somehow I don't think Leo is a big anime fan. He probably has seen it in passing, and has liked the few titles he's seen.

He wants to take a chance with something and I commend his for it.

Hope that they don't suck though.

It can always be worse.
I'm just hoping beyond all hope I won't wake up one day to Uwe Boll's Wicked City.

Episode 2: Attack of the fanboy

Iron Man, The Dark Knight your arguments just became invalid. Hollywood has only done 1 anime adaptation that wasn't that good, but look at the source material.Akira and Ninja Scroll are no where near masterpieces either. While i do care about whether or not its true to the original, i would rather they make a good film first.

I feel like choking DiCaprio. I don't know what the hell he thinks he's doing, trying to adapt these Japanimation classics into live film.

I'm guessing Leo is getting bored with getting typecast as the troubled male lead, and he wants to do something more hands-on in the industry. Since he's set for life, it's very possible anime got him through some tough times, when he wasn't so well-known. Either that, or he simply views his experience on the tail end of the camera as enough to make bolder decisions on projects. I like making fun of the guy, but I still trust him a lot more than those hacks at FOX involved on DB.
