People seem to forget that Toei is the one that called for many of One Piece's extreme edits.

People never seem to quote legitimate sources for this statement, and people also seem to forget that the only reason Toei would have had to call for those edits to begin with was because of the audience that 4Kids was hoping to target. They made a huge mistake touching the show in the first place. I'm not one to stand here and say that everything 4Kids did was bad (hell, the original Pokemon was great, and I don't think Yu-Gi-Oh is salvageable material in any format), but the completely unnecessary (and frankly, often entirely asinine) edits they put shows like One Piece and Cardcaptor Sakura through mean that I'm not exactly shedding any tears when I hear about them struggling financially.

The one thing I don't understand is, aside from the atrocious hack jobs that 4Kids did, why didn't they do the same marketing that they afforded Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh? They go from promoting the living daylights out of two properties, and then they get the new batch of shows and they screech the brakes.

IIRC, One Piece has about the same merchandise opportunities that both Bleach and Naruto have, so why the hesitation?

Actually it was Nelvana who edited Cardcaptor Sakura and if anything they managed to do even more of a hack job than even 4Kids' worst effort.

4kids was the worst thing in general to happen to our scicioty, not only just ruining anime, but for ruining other tv networks in general,I hope they get kicked to the curve for buying out the CW

Worse than slavery? Worse than lynch mobs? Worse than the great depression? The World Wars? Vietnam? The Civil War? Degenerating education standards? Increasingly violent population of youth? The current economic crisis? Government corruption and waste?

Please keep a leash on your hyperbole. Placing 4kids on the same pedestal as the Jim Crow laws and Nazism gives the impression that your priorities need a little reconsideration.

As for myself, I won't miss them. There's a few things I'm glad they brought us, but for the most part, they've been a forgettable company as a whole.

I'd venture a guess that CB X was not referring to society as a whole, but more the anime society... way to blow things out of proportion. Oh, and I call Godwin's Law.

They're not behind it.

Yes, I know that, Addness is, but it is going on the saturday mourning CW block. I was just hoping that 4kids doesn't pull rank and get KR:DK moved to different times.

I know people here are bashing 4Kids' treatment of Yu-Gi-Oh! but I have to play Devil's Advocate here. Do you think Yu-Gi-Oh! would've been as big as it was without 4Kids?

Hell, I didn't even know about Yu-Gi-Oh! prior to 4Kids' acquisition save for seeing Yugi's face on a couple of bootleg soundtracks.

Or the end is finally nigh for them.

Either one is fine, cause I've never really cared about them. Not that the news isn't pointless but it has no effect on me.

Mainstream is finally being fed up with the anime buzz, I'm fine with that.

Yes ,after all the north america anime industry is just booming right now with it s hard core of fans. Most of whom don t buy a dam thing! This industry needs a gateway to lure in news fans and expand the amount of possible consumers or the anime industry here will continue to shrink.

It seems that so far I'm the only other person who agrees with you. Sure I might not like the stuff that 4Kids has produced, but then again I'm outside of their target market. Getting kids to watch Anime and potentially become purchasers is a good thing, and I don't think that them having trouble is necessarily the great news that people seem to think it is. Oh well, if they want to switch networks badly enough to buy out of their contract then they must have good reasons.

I agree as well and my post wasn't hate, so much as 'oh well, not a huge loss...'.

Someone will figure out something eventually... It's just a matter of time.

Dammit! Did I read that right? 4kids! now owns Yuugiou: Duel Monsters until 2015!!?!? Knowing that, I just might have buy some more import DVDs.

Maybe not in any English dubbed format. I was just hoping for some sub-only boxsets one day (a la Card Captor Sakura) but it looks like that day is a long, LONG way off.

Hell, I didn't even know about anime prior to 4Kids!' acquisition of Yuugiou. I mean, a show has to have some pretty interesting story elements for people to like watching it even when it's been edited down to a completely unrecognizable ripoff of the original.

I've seen some promotion from FUNImation, but so far, no merchandise yet(i did see a 18" statue of Ussop once in an anime store, but thats about it). I would totally buy anything they put out, as long as its reasonably priced of course. I think the show has to gain in popularity before we start to see some merchandise. One Piece seems kind of a joke right now, like it was bad before 4kids killed it.

I think I will give my 2 cents on this as well. It probably wouldn't be as big, but it might not have been as bashed as much if a good dub and less or little editing was done for TV broadcast. It was a shame that the uncut DVD's were stopped so early on because if they would have still been made, I would have considered buying them.

It would be questionable if another English Dub was done. If a far superior dub was done and was released in an uncut format it would be better, that's only if the dub could be done right like keeping the original names of the characters and the cards, along with their original drawings.

I know earlier someone said about my bashing of 4 Kids I mean 4 Kids did some horrible dub and edit jobs with Anime, but like a double edge sword it did make some shows massively popular in the United States like Pokemon, and Yu-gi-Oh. It's just that I wasn't always a fan of how they did things, but they really did help get some shows out in the mainstream.

Yugioh has and always has been the big money maker for Konami. It was never intended for otaku like us, it was definitely more for the younger age group of people, even in Japan. We're talking anywhere from first group to early teens. I think it's actually funny to watch the 4Kids dub of Yugioh, reminds me so much of what they did to One Piece.

It is funny to watch at times. I really get a kick out of Yu-gi-oh: the abridged version which makes cracks about the 4kids dub of Yu-gi-Oh.

My daughter really liked Mew Mew Power, but she also wanted to see it as Tokyo Mew Mew, un-cut., and in its entirety. I hate it when companies like this hold on to a licence when it's not doing them any good, leaving it to whither and die of neglect, when someone like FUNimation could breath new life into it.

So, 4Kids just decided to pull the plug on the lower-rated block, because the blocks were competing against each other. If you actually read the article, 4Kids is happy that they're cutting their ties with Fox.

Odd thing was for a long time at the beginning of the season 4KidsTV was the higher rated block(stopped looking at ratings late September-Early October), I remember once Sonic X brought in like 2 Million despite the fact it was over for years.

I think it's more so an example of over extending yourself (although they do still have more Magical DoReiMe from online exclusive episode IIRC), point in case, they are airing shows that are done, and even airing some odd shows aswell. I don't think Biker Mice, and DiGata are good that early in the morning(considering those and Chaotic V2 are the only shows with new episodes on 4KidsTV).

I'm sure the North American Winx fanbase is like "WTF?" since apparently there is another season in the works, and they just lost their broadcaster, with The CW4Kids filled for likely a while.
