Hentai doesn't sell well which leads to less financial backing which then leads to lower quality production and marketing. If the optimal goal was to turn out an anime porn version of HS DxD they wouldn't have been able to even afford the license from Fujimi Shobo. Just so you know: http://tohno-chan.com/ I'm talking about these.....creeps, not just any normal Otaku. |

The big difference is the prices of the anime industry. They generally don't charge more than 20-30 dollars for a hentai OVA, so they'd need to sell like 10k copies just to break even, if they used the same budget as a standard TV anime episode. Its typically way lower budget though so they might just need to sell 6-7k... but still, its a tough sell since people aren't as attached to a hentai since they can't watch it first, nor are they based on established series that already have a significant fanbase. A few based on popular eroges sell well at normal anime prices, though. Kanojo x Kanojo x Kanojo and Oni Chichi are two hentais like this off the top of my head. |

| Some people like this thing, some people like that thing, let's be thankful the industry makes stuff for both kinds of people and stop derailing this thread. | ||||

Sounds like sometimes you get the short end of the stick watching a show that, 5-10 minutes in, you absolutely do not like and had sit through it or part of it. While I might disagree with some of the reviews you do, especially if it's a show I enjoy, they are rather fun reads. You write for High School DxD:
Shouldn't that be not an anime screenwriter, but for whoever wrote the manga or light novel the show is adapted from? |

| But everyone thinks the industry should make more of what they like. Conflict arises when people treat the industry as a zero-sum game, which it arguably is when the industry isn't expanding. | ||||

Looking at the light novel and manga industry is more telling of what people want to make, since they don't need to get all the anime budgets approved... and those markets are flooded with ecchi and moe as well. The thing is that many otaku become the mangaka and light novel authors. |

^ Seconded, if you mean the sunrise/sunset shot. Very lovely. Time to chime in: Bodacious Space Pirates: I'm not getting the whole "this could be the best show of the season" vibes. Watched the first episode. Found it fun, entertaining, but wasn't set afire. I'll continue watching, but I'm keeping my expectations set on low. The Knight in the Area: Not really into sports anime, but I liked the first episode enough to give it at least another. The characters are what will sell this for me, rather than soccer. As for the rest (thus far), not interested. A big thank you to all the hardworking ladies and gentlemen putting together this preview guide. I find it helpful (for the most part), and always enjoyable. |

| While I'm not looking forward to much this season and most of my time is spent watching older titles, to be quite honest, I'll still keep an eye out for whatever shows are highlighted or recommended around here.
Bodacious Space Pirates isn't a particularly smart show, to say the least, but it's reasonably well-made, the characters are alright and there's very little or nothing to see on the fanservice front. If the concept itself doesn't automatically offend, the episode can be pretty entertaining and a good introduction to the subject matter. I'll continue to watch. | Now we have our first official dissent on Bodacious Space Pirates (I admit, I'm starting to admire the audacious uncoolness of that title) from Rebecca Silverman, although it's really just a mild, "meh."
It's intriguing to me that she seemed slightly bored compared to the spirit of adventure that both Theron and Zac cited. In a way so startling different an impression makes me more interested. Even though I well understand why it could be dull, the novelty of Marika having a very normal, reasonable response to learning that she's the heir of a pirate captain is an oddly amusing concept to me. | I was gonna overlook Bodacious Pirates like the rest of the band but Zac's compelling five that is only talked about in history books forces me to check this out.
Nisemonogatari on the other hand didn't lose its touch. The first five explosive minutes with Hitagi were heavenly. She's still the every bit of sadist as we remember her to be. |

| Just finished watching Space Pirates and here's my take:
About 70% of the cast and crew are females. I just can't buy that these sugary girls are pirates. There's a lot of goodwill here (except for that pirate woman's "mourning" clothes) and the lead is so far likeable not to mention top production values. Just like Zac I too think the first episode isn't enough to tell much about the series. But it didn't make much of an impression on me. I'm with Rebecca on this. Unless I see some real juicy bait and a promising premise minus the cheesiness, I'm not investing much here. Btw, so far my most favorite pirate themed venture was the Disney's animated movie The Treasure Planet, which I watched long ago getting teary eyed at the end. |

If only it could be left at that. However there are always people who go "What I like is the best, what you like is garbage!" instead of "I don't like it but if you do, no problem." Random forum posters are one thing but when I pick up such attitude in the previews themselves I'm less than pleased. I still think Carlos should modify that one line. |

Because we weren't expecting what you were expecting. I, personally, was expecting Angel Links. I think I may agree more with Carl's slightly more reserved assessment than Zac or Theron's, but I don't know if I would have watched it without theirs. |

Which is why we all have half way decent shows on the boarder for both this season. Me and you personally have really really different opinions/taste in series which is fine by all means "nice anime list bro". What this boils down to is the main fact most of the shows in Japan are no made nor will ever be meant for our market here. Harem/Hijink's anime are not going to go away from the market but I hope more people realize Like I did two years ago.. it's not worth the damn pain to watch most anymore. |
