Had to watch the series, but I don't think I'll be picking up the DVD. Watching it was enough just in Japanese, although I agree with the review in which the themes were pretty recurring. Funny to watch but not something I think I would be watching again anytime soon. Even the manga I stopped reading.

The day this was released, the Best Buy website claimed my store had it in stock available for in store pickup. Great! I thought, I can stroll in pick it up and only have to show it to the Cashier.
As I am looking at the anime row, I do not see it, I wonder could this possibly have made its way onto the Family row? (now that could be a shock to an unsuspecting parent) Luckily, I think the cover art of Dokuro-chan happily brandishing the menacing Excalibog would prevent it from showing up between the Barbie and Bob the Builder Dvds.
Just then, I am asked if I need help finding something, I relate the story of the Bestbuy website clearly stating the title "Bludgeoning Angel Dokuro-Chan". Was the look she gave me Fear, Confusion, Pity, or Annoyance? She looks up the title on the computer and finds that indeed the store does have it and goes in back to dig it up. About five minutes later I have the disc in my hand and only have to make it through the cashier who recognizes me from previous visits, who once told me that I would like my purchase of Angelic Layer, and asked what Strawberry Panic and Otoboku were about.
As you can see, I have no shame, anime has turned me into the twisted creature you see before you.
But, this title was worth it for the shock humor. I showed the first episode to a few friends and actually heard people laugh out loud, which is pretty rare for a animated comedy, unintentionally less so than an anime from a converted H game. Just about anything from Media Blasters is an automatic buy for me.
I await the review for Magical Witch Punie-Chan.

Glad to see that your friends have the proper sense of humor to enjoy the show. It's a great privilege to have a greater audience to enjoy an anime show with, you know.

I love this show and I'm so glad it got such a good review! However why does it say DVD 1 when it contains the complete series???

And what is an online anime discussion without a dub/sub diatribe?

Marking it down for box quality and lack of extra's is harsh but understandable. This is a VERY niche title and its simply astounding it was even licensed for release here in the first place. It's perfectly understandable to me why it has a cheaper box, no dub, and lack of extras. This is not a title thats going to make them alot of money but they licensed it anyways. Myself like many others have told friends that this is a prime example of a show that would never be licensed in the US.
Never been happier to have been wrong
I snagged it at launch and got lucky and snagged $10 off because bestbuy couldnt find my order for in-store pickup
It's definitely a fun series and a great watch, especially with a group of friends or in an anime club.
I just want to chime in on people who say how dubs are inferior to the original Voice Actor's, etc. Unless you are a fluent native speaker of Japaneese you really can't make that statement as you would have no idea if the japaneese voice actors were doing a good job or reciting random gibberish. You might like how a japaneese VA sounds compared to an English one but that says nothing about the quality of a dub.

I saw this on sale for £12 ($24 using my outdated calculonotron) and the two GaoGaiGar Boxsets for £18 each (£36 / $72), needless to say, I think I backed the right, if not more expensive hourse.
It always kinda baffled me why this show got licenced, it's realy one note and by the time the first episode is over, you'd have to be one hell of a late morning person to not get that Sakura became a pedophile becuase of the adject association of boobs and painful spikey death from anywhere.
But that's me from a Club runner POV that got Nadesico shot down for it...

Yet, Media Blasters were the ones responsible for doing liner notes for the Rurouni Kenshin tv series. Ironic, that.

This is the sort of show I would have never expected to wind up sitting through...until I wound up sitting through it one day. As it stands, it holds a rather dear, rather bizarre, and rather Excaliborg-shaped place in my heart. Uproariously funny, hilariously violent, completely random, ridiculously catchy theme song...really, what's not to love? I personally thought that the second season was somewhat less amusing than the first, but it made for a memorable experience when taken as a whole. I just might have to pick this up.

This show was hilarious in the first few episodes, but I too feel that it wears thin after awhile. Still cool to have seen this licensed and distributed.

This is one of the few anime titles that actually made me fall out of my chair laughing. Yes, it's extremely ridiculous at times, but it's fun (and it gets extra points for the extreme gore! )

I don't see Star Wars fans complaining that those DVDs have French & Spanish language tracks

Truer words never spoken. I felt Dokuro squandered a good premise - when it comes down to it the series isn't a satire of sudden girlfriend series, it's just a rather trite, dull, bland sudden girlfriend series with the abusiveness of the girlfriend taken to a ridiculous extreme.
As such, it has exactly one joke. Other attempts at humour not related to ultraviolence are invariably lame, and the series even plays some whole scenes with a trite, dull seriousness (the subplot about the lovers).
Dai Mahou Touge, however, is a satire - and an uproariously sadistic one at that. It takes a cliche and twists it in many inevitable ways, and then when even its own sadism might seem predictable in turns that again on its head.

Damn right! Have you ever seen the omakes for Dai Mahou Touge? They take the cruelty from the series and completely toss them out of the window, especially on seeing her homeland!
