| Hehe, Nina's such a fangirl ^^ This reminds me way to much of Fushigi Yugi and Haruka. |

Why does this remind me of the old school Nsync/BSB fights from back in the day? I feel old. |

I'll never understand the workings of the female mind. Nor do I want to.
A much better strip than last week's. Just because fangirls are an easy target doesn't make it any less funny. |

Kevins' comment in Panel 6 is trully evident.
Take for example the popular series Gundam Seed.
Majority of the characters have the same faces.
They only differ in eye color, hair style and hair color.
[EDIT: Spoiler tag removed. Saying that characters look similar does not spoil anything about Gundam Seed. Please stick to the format listed below for spoiler tags.~Zalis] | Code: | | In [name of anime]
these important/surpising events happen.
|

Oy, this is so painfully true...
And that's what makes it hilarious. Good work! |

IT'S SO TRUUUUUE!
Yeah, I have this issue with a lot of shoujo anime, and some shonen like the aforementioned Gundam Seed. Geez. I'm watching Vampire Knight right now, and the only difference between a lot of these characters is HAIR AND EYE COLOR and that's not even bad artwork by a long shot, just sub-par character design. Kaname and Zero are the two most different looking males because of facial shape, but they aren't the ones I'm going to need help telling apart, all those stupid student council members are. At least I'm not dealing with The Wallflower again...geez, that was a headache and a half.

(Make character designs distinctive! They can all be pretty in different ways!) |

My thoughts exactly. I remember sometime ago finding a CGed picture where someone switched the hair styles and faces of the characters around and despite that they still looked the same. ;; |

I'm glad that Nina brought out the ever-persistent problem of bland character design. This is where many anime character designs suffer: Everyone looks same if you take away hair and eye shape. This happens when there is too much inbreeding between anime and manga.
Why this happens? It's obvious. The designing artist always copied popular styles and didn't bothered to implement real people observation before he or she turned pro. This is bad because every manga artist/illustrator hopefuls are developing generic character design which encourages mediocrity.
Animator are supposed to do some "plastic surgery" on these bland design, but they can't deviate too much so that they can please "blind" fans. Good character designer has galls to implement his or her solid style on existing design. That is why some character designers are still popular with fans. On the other hand, inexperienced or bad character designer just use existing original designs and modify them for animation use. Director is also responsible because he has ultimate responsibility to weeds out bland designs. |

| Yeah. All those bishonen characters from the reverse-harem shows all look the same, aside from the alternate hairdos. |

Which leads to the question of import: How many times did Robyn have to redraw brown-eyed Nina ... I mean Talan, to remove the pointed ears?
PS - Am I noticing a concerted theme in this week's content, or just a bizzare happenstance? |

| That show does not follow the holy laws of bishounen design! Blonde = heroic and the popular pretty boy, white/silver = mysterious and reserved. I suggest a mob, torches and pitch forks. |

Yes, the scar makes all the difference doesn't it?
What if the entire cast had a scar in a different place on their face, then we'd have an interesting lineup. |
