Holy crap. Can't wait for the scanlations! I found a JFK manga at a store once. it went over the whole cuban missile crisis and his apollo speech. Pretty epic stuff really. I also have scans somewhere of a manga coverning the US presidential election. But Marx? THE BEST.

A manga version based on Communist propaganda? Are they absolutely serious?

Heh, I perused thru the Manga Guide to Statistics that I could get for half price at a store. If this is anything like that, expect many manga tropes. Laughing

It's not communist propaganda. It's an analysis of how capitalism works. Marx's communist manifesto is propaganda. They're quite different works.

I was plowing through the 'Inferno' section of the Divine Comedy a while earlier and wondered how an illustrated version would be handled.

I know these manga versions aren't really substitutes for the works they were based upon, but it would still be nice if they got picked up by an English-language publisher.

Well that sounds awesome, I want a copy. If this succeeds what is next, Lenninism or Marxism? The essays of Trotsky?

Makes perfect sense.

I am sure this will be required reading for all those little 4th and 5th graders out there someday.

Are you being sarcastic? Don't be. The Japanese Communist party is the largest third party by far. Its leader, Kazuo Shii (no relation), has gained prominence among young people on Nico Nico Douga, and as the article notes the Crab Canning Ship novel is such a hit in Japan it's a wonder it has not yet received a new English translation.

And now they'll be capitalizing on this.

Maybe in a morbidly realistic way, yes. Sorry if I have a problem with content like this possibly being used to indoctrinate kids which rarely understand anything at that point. Stuff like this, which is really nothing more than an addendum to his twenty year earlier work, the Communist Manifesto. To seed the evils of capitalism(however elegant and wrong they may have been) in the minds of the youth, and point them in the direction of his true masterwork.

Yes, it is bad to turn against the "party".

Forgive me, but I don't really think that's a good thing.

Well, I wouldn't mind that so much. Every nation, including Japan, and under every system of government has done bad things in the past, present and future. Sad thing is, when the populace starts demanding things in a Marxist tact, it inevitably sinks the state into a worse recession. But I suppose one could call life nothing but a vicious circle, so I suppose it works out.
