Well, okay, I can live with the yellow subs (as I said a little while ago after my first post). Thanks for that link by the way, was sort of informative. Still though, I'd find black and white less distracting myself.

And the reason I don't buy online is because I don't have a credit card yet, but even if I did, to pay shipping to where I live probably costs more than the product itself, even if the product is cheaper. In the end, shipping + product = more than you might pay at a store, even with more markup in-store than online. At least where I live.

As for karaoke, I just see it as sort of a fun thing to follow along to in your head, even if some people find the bouncing or effects annoying. I find it sort of fun. I'd rather have none than have bland text just sitting there, I would find that sort of annoying itself.

Ah well, can't always get what you want. Guess I should just accept it. Hopefully some of these things can be done on blu-ray and companies will start putting out on that medium.

Anyway, don't have more time to respond today. Thanks for the interesting chatter.

Well then please share with me where you get your anime, because that indeed does sound fair. I'd be willing to pay that. It's probably more like $34-35 where I am for that, but then with two taxes where I live and all that it comes to around $40.

Bam. Depending the exact set, the Naruto boxsets go for $33 or less, and it looks like DeepDiscount's shipping to Canada is in the $8 range or show for products in that price range. I know you say you don't have a credit card, but neither do I, for that matter; I have a check card issued by my bank that allows me to make online purchases right out of my checking account. You should look into it; I think you'll find that it'll save you a lot of money in the long run.

Also, based on everything I've seen and heard, we're never going to see a single Blu-Ray disk for an entire season of a series. Just for starters, doing so would most likely degrade quality to the point that the Blu-Ray format's native improvement would be rendered moot.

About signs, karaoke, and other such things:

You seem to be completely oblivious to my point, or are just being downright ignorant to what I said. I said THEY COULD BE TURNED OFF, and I even stated that I recognized a lot of people don't like these things. But if they only take a small amount of extra work/time for a company to add them with the ability to toggle them on and off for those who might enjoy them, then there should be no problem coming from you about not wanting to see them right? You could just turn them off, or they could even be off by default, and people like me who are willing to go through the extra work in the menu to turn them on can do so. That basically makes any argument such as "we don't like these things" irrelevant, because you wouldn't be forced to see them if you didn't want to.

Sadly, I can't remember where I read it (it was here on ANN, I believe), but I'm pretty sure that the problem with karaoke on dvds isn't so much that the companies don't want to do it as it's a limitation on the dvd format itself. As with the yellow font, colorful, bouncy karaoke effects in imaginative fonts like the ones fansubbers use simply aren't possible on a dvd. I've seen dvds that had both the japanese and english lyrics displayed during the OP, but that's about as far as it goes, I believe.

That's correct. There's DVD standards and specifications that you have to meet in order to ensure that your product works on (well, the vast majority) of players. If you had every company using different fonts and fancy special effects, it'd be a nightmare. So to be fair, its not the companies trying to be cheap, lazy or trying to deliver "sub-standard" products.

Yet, it is 1 of the most successful and popular series ever. I wonder why that is so.

I may be wrong here, but didn't DBZ claim that?
And yes, I do realize that you said you find it entertaining, not good.

1 of the most, not the most successful. I do find it entertaining but it wouldn't come anywhere close to being 1 of my favorites. It's mindless fun and if I'm entertained, that's all that matters to me.

I do have to say, it annoys me when I see a show on CN or Scifi and they fail to translate Japanese text that is clearly important to the show. Obviously they don't have to translate street signs that are completely irrelevant and just there as background, but when a character's like "hey, look at this" and the text fills the screen for several seconds, it should be translated so you don't need to read Japanese to know what they're talking about. Most quality fansub groups do this almost seamlessly, just overwriting the Japanese text with an English version.

Lets wait and see, I read that the guys at Crunchyroll will try to make it available in more regions (hopefully its like their agreement with Gonzo, which can be viewed in most regions).

Starting January 8th, we'll have the newest eps of Naruto Shippuden, Shugo Chara, Skip Beat!, and many other titles on CR with english subs for people everywhere possible (with some exceptions like Japan).

I guess it's a lot cheaper to buy online, but for those of us who don't, we're probably not going to get as good a deal.

Here's what I'm talking about:
http://www.amazon.ca/Black-Lagoon-Vol-Season-2/dp/B001DN0UWG/ref=sr_1_20?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1227565040&sr=8-20

Okay, it's 4 episodes, not 3. The list price is $31.99, if I were to pick that off the shelf where I live, pay tax and all that, it would come to roughly $37-ish, which is $3 shy of $40.

Obviously when I said $40 for three episodes is was ball-park, I don't have prices in front of me all the time, but this is an example of 4 episodes for $37-ish.

You know, you're only limiting yourself to what you want to buy. Before I never used to buy my DVDs online, and I'd still get it for a good price. Amazon had the Death Note box set for sale, half price. <3

Amazon is a good site, but not the only site that sells DVDs out there. Also, if you go to Borders/Waldenbooks/Barnes and Noble/B Dalton, they always have sales and you can subscribe to their mailing list and print out coupons.

o_o gosh , if you're worried so much about price (specifically MSRP), it's not that difficult to get it for a lower price. I don't even buy individual DVDs unless it's a short series. If I know it's going to be more than 3-4 volumes, I'll end up buying it when it comes out in a set.

I just think people are making things a lot more difficult than it needs to be. It's not really that hard at all.

i doubt their popularity will drop much as the crazy bleach obsessed fanboys (such as me Anime hyper) will keep up their daily mass of downloads and abusive e-mails, i just find it amusing that they will be subbing only bleach (for now) and they'll always be called dattebayo Anime smile

I can see a "cry wolf" situation arising here..

same situation with me, after all this time like this i wasnt too sure either, all i can say is i gave up second guessing this statement but deep down i'm hoping that this is one of their greatest trolls ever! i mean lets face it dattebayo are awesome fansubbers and no other group will be quite the same :'( lol

One thing I think everyone forgot, AMVs. A key part of anime cons will now start to go down hill since you can't own eps for free.

Any con that takes its AMV contest seriously has already banned using anything with subs in it. This will have no effect on cons. Just on the thousands of crappy disposable AMVs out there. Again, nothing of value was lost. Those who make AMVs of value know how to acquire clean materials.

I dunno if people understand the implications of this if it is successful, because if it is other companies and or licensed animes will do the same thing viz is doing, if it is "real", and that is a major blow. now i somewhat agree that Dattebayo might haved trolled it ere, but kinda understand where there comin from if its real. I do not support companies that license and support fansubs, thru and thru, as i believe that most (not all) companies kill the anime with dub which is y i only watch them once and almost always don't watch again. and for those who don't like to do things illigally (refferin to downloadin anime), that u are some waht of a hypocrite. i say this because if u drive or will ever drive u WILL commit some type of infraction, and thus break teh law, and are more likely to get caught and or charged by such violation, regardless of the frequency in which it happens. and the law is very very gray. someone could kill 20 people with 40 witnesses and still get a "glance" instead of a "direct hit" from teh judicial system. its all about how u play it
