#2's Yotsuba&! volume 8 tied into an exclusve "Amazon.co.jp box version" of Revoltech Danbo Mini figure.

I wonder if this is the first time that has ever happened. Pretty cool if it is.

Still waiting for that Vol. 6, ADV manga.

The problem with Naruto is that all the people who bought it originally have left it by the wayside. It's still a steady seller, and will never hurt for money, but I don't think we'll see it on a yearly top ten list of single volumes.

Hooray for Nodame Cantabile, Yotsuba, Fullmetal Alchemist & One Piece in the manga section and Story of Saiunkoku in the light novel section. Smile

Now if only ADV would continue releasing Yotsuba or at least let someone else release it.

Naruto is only really wildly popular here, its not in japan. Thats not to say its not popular in Japan, just not as popular as One Piece.

anyway, glad 3 of my favorite manga ended up on this list; One Piece, FMA and Vagabond are great manga series.

Naruto, though certainly popular, is by no means the most popular manga in Shonen Jump, let alone in general.

I'm not always entirely sure what to make of Hunter × Hunter, though. On the one hand, it seems to be wildly popular when it's out, but a substantial part of this could simply be pent-up demand. Yoshihiro Togashi's health is fragile, so he takes superlong breaks, leaving regular serialization of his work (like we have at the moment) as something of a rarity. I suppose he has to be popular enough for Shueisha to allow him to do this in the first place, but his work has never won me over. (The hiatuses certainly haven't helped.)

One Piece, in contrast, both keeps a regular schedule and tops the charts during new-volume months, which leaves it the de facto most popular Jump manga.

This should say Fullmetal Alchemist. Even if it was Full Metal Panic!, it'd still be wrong, because of the fullmetal/full metal thing.

On reflection, why is it even Fullmetal Alchemist? The Japanese title more closely translates to "Steel Alchemist". The mind boggles.

Here, it's Full Metal Panic!, since three Zero no Tsukaima, Spice and Wolf, and Full Metal Panic! light novels were the top three light novels at Amazon.co.jp this past year. Fullmetal Alchemist volume 19 was #4 on the separate manga list.

I'm amazed Nausicaa is still selling that well. Is it the Watchmen of Japan??

The fact that Togashi is able to take such long breaks(the longest being almost 2 years) and come back and sell as much as it does every time is a testament to how popular it actually is.

I'd buy the comic books if I could find them for reasoniable prices stateside, the art in there is amazing, but you're right, this is an awfully long time.
Oh and you guys can link the Spice and Wolf novel to it's anime that came out last winter, glad that the novels are coming out soon here.
