Mars was the first manga that I successfully collected in its entierity. It's also quite possibly my most heavily borrowed manga. My circle of friends are Golgo 13/Go Nagai/Lupin III/UC Gundam/Masamune Shirow fans, and this pretty shoujo title is considered one of our must-reads.

I don't think I can better explain how good it is than that.

Based on the glowing review - and the many people who posted their love for the series here - I went out and bought this series. It came in the mail yesterday, and I was so engrossed in it that I finished it - and the prequel - tonight. Yup. I read all 16 volumes in 2 days.

My eyes are kinda spinning in their sockets, but it was a fun ride! Thanks for introducing me to a gem.

Eternal Sabbath is on its way, too. I'm going to be keeping my eye on this mangaka.

". . . where the leads talk a lot, especially when they talk about big issues: life, death, love, philosophy, creativity. It's disappointing how rare this is in teen romance, manga or otherwise. Most young people think a lot about big issues, more than they do when they get older, and most people's experience of young love includes long, intense late-night conversations about The Meaning of It All. Why don't we see more of this in fiction? Are writers as embarrassed as the rest of us by their old naïveté, their outsize teenage dreams?"

This! Totally! I wonder if it's not embarrassment. Maybe it's an inability to recapture those conversations without irony or maybe even bitterness?
