Nice. Judging from the translated text and Roy's design, this'll definitely be a complete remake. I'm also hoping that this will be a longer series than 51 episodes. The manga just has such a fully developed world and plenty of side stories that I'd really like to see it all animated. Even though the pacing of the manga is kinda shaky thanks to those side stories. ![]() |

| I'm excited that there will be a second series but in my honest opinion, I kinda don't like the idea of a re-launch. I know everyone wants the "full" story, but i really liked the idea of Arakawa stating that you didn't need two mediums to tell the same thing and she let the guys at Bones do there own thing with her consulting on a few things.
If you do a re-launch then what was the point of doing the first animated series? I've read the manga and I am aware how different and (in some respects) cooler it is, but the first fullmetal series is my favorite animated show and I'd really hate for it to be trumped down to just a thing in the past. I'd rather see this new series be a season 2 instead of a "new series", I think it would be pretty cool if they used the anime plot and incorporated the manga elements by introducing the new characters and bad guys. |

That's pretty much what I was guessing, but it's great to have more info. I personally can't wait to see what this new series'll offer, since, as some folks have stated, the artwork from the teaser makes me suspect a more manga-guided adaptation this time 'round, which is all good by me.
The only teensy drawback that comes to mind is that, for dub-watchers/non-fabsubbers like myself, the wait'll be considerably longer than next April. Still, the mere fact that an air date has been provided, even a tentative one, makes me exceedingly happy! |

| If this is a re-boot that more closely follows the manga, then I'll be very excited to watch as someone that has never read the manga. However, I have heard that the first part of the 'old' show (to ep 26?) is pretty much the same as the manga, and then diverges from there. I really don't want to watch that whole arc over again if it's going to be the same. | ||||

| All I want to know is, same cast? I will not accept Edward Elric without Paku Romi - she makes him bearable. | ||||

One of the reason Arakawa didn't originally want the anime to follow the story faithfully to the manga is because she KNEW they anime would quickly blast past where she was, and most people don't want to read what they have already watched. It looses it's POW factor when plot twists and such occur. (And yes, different media can tell stories in different ways.) But now it's the other way around. Many people enjoy and even look forward to see static images in motion with sound and color and all that fun stuff, even if they already know exactly how the story will go. It's no slam against the first series--that's how I fell in love with FMA myself! It's just a triumph to how successful the series STILL is after being ended on tv for several years. I still liked the first anime of Hellsing, and Ultimate didn't change that for me, so why should this destroy what FMA was to me for so long? And as a reply to something someone else said long ago about how they'll treat the pre-Hughes death stuff: Only a few episodes pre-episode 13 (which was mostly omake inspired) are actually in the manga. The things that ARE in the manga prior to Al getting kidnapped by Greed are often played out differently (in some cases REALLY differently--Ed never met Nina and Tucker in the manga, although they did exist, he just never got there until after tragedy struck. Much like in the 2nd PS2 game now that I think about it, if I'm remembering right). No Majihal, no Psyren, no Tringhams, no Ed being there at the birth of Elysia. It's alot shorter story to get past all that following the manga story line. So we won't be plodding through nearly as much repeated material as some people think. (But sadly less early screen time for Hughes. )Last edited by Zrana on Sun Dec 07, 2008 12:50 pm; edited 1 time in total |

LOL well I was partly being sarcastic but w/e. Yes I know it takes months to do stuff like this however also we do not know when they started production. If they started production way back early this year then they could be more than ready to kick it up. However they are working on a bunch of projects as it is, so who knows? |

| April 9? Better start catching up on the manga. I'm really excited to see the Xing Alchemy story finally come into fruition.
And I bet dollars to donuts that FUNimation will pick this up on the first opportunity. However, the only thing I'm worried about is who could replace Aaron Dismuke as Alphonse considering that Dismuke can't do the voice anymore? They better find a good replacement because it will be pretty hard to meet the bar raised by Dismuke's performance. |

Actually I don't think we know it'll be a complete remake. Once again they could just branch off the anime and continue from there. That way they have more episodes to dedicate to the manga, which they need as later chapters are much more action oriented and have alot of plot. Either way I have feeling this is going to be awkward. I total reboot would be simpler but once again I don't think they could do the whole manga series as it is with 50 episodes unless they cut stuff out. |

Ed did meet Nina and Tucker before that incident. It happens in chapter 5 of the manga. The major difference is it's not a flashback scene. In the anime Ed is a 11 I believe during this scene in the manga he is 15. |

| Even the first half of the original series changed a lot of stuff from the original manga, to its detriment IMO. I'll be disappointed if this new series is not a complete remake that doesn't follow the manga as closely as possible. | ||||
