Looks interesting. I watched the Naruto Shippuden b2b when it aired. One Piece seems to be doing very well on that chart also Wink

Hunter x Hunter is in that range where you're not so sure if it's going to continue after the 45 episodes which are set to air...Hopefully it does.

That one hour special with the 4th Hokage deserved high ratings. Favorite episodes so far.

Wow, Knight in the Area is a massive flop. Did they expect that to be a long-running show?

I am aware of a sales figure called the manabi line, that gets used to determine if the physical sales of a show was profitable but I've never heard of a similar number for TV viewership.

Gintama is at a 3.1% and has really been in the top 10 but I am confident that it's run isn't in jeopardy.
What is it about HxH being at 3.9% that is so worrisome to you?

My friends, the reason Bleach was cancelled. It can't even outdo a bad anime that airs at 1:30 AM.

Usually for those kinds of titles it's not the ratings but the advertisement for manga sales. Sket Dance gets a 1.9, but it's stuck around all this time because the manga sales have increased since the anime aired.

Similar to Beyblade, it doesn't pull in the ratings like Pocket Monsters Best Wishes, but the toys still sell like hotcakes so it sticks around.

Sket Dance varies week by week from 1.0+ to 3.0+. While Bleach hasn't gone above 1.8 in months.

You also forget the sponsers if the ratings remain to low and merchandise sales drop they will pull the plug.

Gintama DVDs sell really well for a day-time anime. Apparently the first HxH DVD which came out on the 25th of January wasn't even ranked.

Besides, Hunter x Hunter airs on a much bigger network compared to TV Tokyo, and I assume they have certain expectations for such a time-slot.

Basically, average ratings (I would expect something around the 5% mark, which HxH got at some point) + mediocre DVD sales aren't very encouraging...

Gintama also pulls in ~12k copies sold for each the DVD sets that are released. It has a very solid fanbase that will buy the anime.

I definitely wouldn't wake up at 6:00 AM on a Saturday to watch it. With a time slot like that, it's surprising that anyone is watching it.

The only expectations for the time slot I am aware of is yours.

Based on the chart, the TV ratings HxH gets looks better than average to me.

For what it's worth, when the ratings for the first episode were released (4.4%), most people on 2chan were rather surprised as they expected better numbers. Obviously, I can't tell you what NTV and Madhouse expect, I don't work for them.

Using only the chart can be tricky, When it aired, Kekkaishi had ratings around the 7-9% range, yet it was moved to a bad time-slot (because sponsors pulled out, if I remember correctly) and ended up getting cancelled. Besides, I'm saying that the ratings seem average to me given the channel and the time-slot, so it being ahead of a certain amount of late-night and early morning anime or anime that air on TV Tokyo isn't really something to be celebrated IMO.
