So! I'm NOT the only one who thought No Shaking Throne was one of the better volumes later on in the series!

Hehe, Bleach gets a lot better in the current volumes in Japan. 33-35 are really good. Lots of revelations and amazing fights.

*Just finished reading through them a couple weeks ago.*

I pretty much don't consider Romeo X Juliet to have anything at all to do with Romeo and Juliet in the same way that Bakuretsu Tenshi/Burst Angel really has nothing to do with Little Women. When you look at it that way (i.e. random fantasy love and war story... with flying horses), the series is actually much better.

I also found Naruto vol. 32 to be a bit disappointing. And then later on, spoiler[Sasuke gets so much focus that Kishimoto might as well have renamed the series after him.] Bah. At least things get better when spoiler[Pain appears, kills Jiraiya, and then wreaks all kinds of havoc in Konoha.] Thankfully, Viz is supposed to be speeding up the U.S. releases (again) in early 2009.

As for Bleach vol. 25, that was a good read. I agree with a previous commenter who said that volumes 33-35 are good, but I'll also throw in vol. 27 too... because I'm a hopeless romantic at heart... *sniffles*

Heh heh. I loved the OP > Naruto, Bleach comment on the main page. Brought a smile to this fanboy's face.

In my country (Canada), One Piece volumes come out at the same rate as Bleach and Naruto.

In other words, they are only a few volumes short of the most recent japanese releases! Very Happy

No offense, but you U.S. fellas generally get the short end of the stick in the manga
department.

(you really should point out that the situation you are referring to only applies to 1 province)

Actually, Viz will over take Kana's Naruto releases in a few months, and Quebec gets those a good 4-6 weeks after they're released in France.

But of course, we'll also have access to the Viz releases.

Quebec remains, IMHO, the best place in the world for manga outside of Japan. The two biggest non domestic (non Japanese) manga markets in the world (the USA and France) provide the manga that is available in bookstore shelves in Quebec. Quebec gets all the US manga same day and date as in the US, and all the French manga about 4-8 weeks after the French release. The best thing about it isn't getting stuff early, its that there are a lot of titles released in France that aren't available in the USA and vice versa. So Quebec has more volumes of manga on the shelf than either the USA or France. Only one catch, you need to be billingual, fortunately most people in Quebec are.

I remember watching the first episode of the RxJ anime at the Expo last year. It was certainly a unique twist on Shakespeare's tragic romance. Honestly the fantasy elements like flying horses didn't bug me. Sure they were out of place, but it's called artistic creativity. Besides flying horses are kind of a romantic cliche, so it's all in good context.

Actually, the anime episode adapted the novel chapter, not the other way around.

It just so happens that a) I live in Québec and b) I am bilingual. Razz I should have mentioned that before.

Only 1 province in Canada provides so much manga? I'm glad to have been born here! Mr. Green

Yeah, I am jealous of the Quebecois manga market. I'd love to pick up some French manga, if only to try and get my French skills back. But even in New Brunswick, I didn't see much of it, and NB is actually fairly bilingual (albeit often Acadian French).

It seems that Bleach has a knack for making the "necessary but boring" bits of shonen manga entertaining. Last time he reviewed Bleach it was during a story arc transition volume, and this time it was a training arc. Both types fall under "necessary but boring" but Kubo made them really fun to read. And you just gotta love that cover. I think Viz removing the titles from the covers was a really wise choice. While I always enjoy his funky little titles, I think the front covers have all looked much better without them...and sometimes we even get to see slightly more of the image.

As for Naruto, I agree. Nothing since the time skip has been especially interesting, but what's recently been happening in US Shonen Jump has been pretty exicting (because Naruto was actually the main focus for once).

Well, I personally like those titles. There are so engrish-y. Luckily for me, they are kept untranslated for the french release (in english. I'm not making this up).
