...personally I thought Holland and Talho were the best couple...

But I'd love to see this tell what happened between the end and the epilogue. It'd be great if they gave equal treatment to Renton and Dominic though.

Still, as I've said before, the is the one show capable of making me squeal in fanboyish glee.

I always prefered EurekaxRenton but anyway, yes, I can't wait for this movie to be released on Japanese DVD.

My favorite couple is Talho and Holland. Sorry everyone! Anime smile

Anyway, I'll put my money on this being a compilation movie. I'd much rather see an continuation or an alternate telling.

They've already said it was going to be something new.

Well, Eureka Seven is one of those I guess I have to try to re-watch, though I said it would take being strapped to a chair to watch past Ep 43, spoiler[(Survivor: The Eureka Edition)] again. Renton becomes from then on a far less interesting Shinji Ikari, and the rest of the show seems like a train wreck.

But maybe I don't need an electric chair, just a pitcher of martinis Smile .

If the movie goes somewhere else--anywhere else--even with Renton and Eureka (whom I enjoy as a unique character), I will be happy.

Very Happy

I became extremely happy when I heard this news.

Does anyone want to lend me some cash so I can make it to Japan later this month?

In b4 "damn you credit crisis"! Rolling Eyes

Eureka Seven continues! Congratulations and thank you to all involved and YOU know who you are!

Yeah, I think that's the general consensus, at least on the english speaking internet.

Not on my tiny corner of it. Razz Eureka and Renton easily have my favorite relationship of any anime couple.

I wasn't exactly sold on the idea of telling any additional stories in the universe, since I loved the show as it stood, but damn if that image doesn't make me intensely curious. I can't wait to hear more about this.

I wouldn't mind either one. Just as long as Eureka and Anemone can be in it at the same time. I love both characters.

...you seriously must have just skipped wholesale over the last four or so episodes to even start to think that that comparison is valid. Laughing

Who knows. I was so pissed after 43, and then the spoiler["stand in the library while a completely new character explains the theme ad nauseum, which Renton will soon repeat to someone else just to make damn sure we got it"], that I doubt I faithfully recall the last eps. I just recall spoiler["Renton refusing to fight, i.e. being a pacifist, which reminded me of Shinji".]

Perhaps I should recap a bit from memory, then, since I'm looking for a temporary boredom cure. Spoilers for the end of the series, obviously:

spoiler[--Renton originally freely determines to set out and save the world with Eureka and the kids in episode 42, when they fly off from the Vodarak shrine and bust through the Great Wall. This is the culmination of character development that's been occurring in him since the very first episode.

--Inexplicably, they wind up on the original surface of Earth, with no indicator of what to do or where to go. Understandably, tensions rise between Renton and Eureka as frustrations get the better of them. Renton feels like Eureka should somehow know what to do, since she's the Coralian in all of this after all.

--Tensions rise even more as Eureka feels sick and withdrawn, culminating in her eventual full transformation and Renton's confrontation of it. In the heat of the moment, they come to a realization about how much they mean to each other once again, which breaks the tension between them and finally allows them to find the Coralian Control Cluster.

--Once inside the Cluster, Renton finally comes face-to-face with Diane (who is not a "new character" in any real sense, since she's been part of Renton's driving motivation since the very beginning), who lays out the whole situation for him. Renton and Eureka both proactively decide to reject the destruction and/or dissolution of the human race and seek out a path of compromise, which they freely believe is possible. They set out to do just that.

--Big **** goes down, Anemone arrives, Dominic arrives, much bigger **** goes down, Dewey shows up, the Gekko shows up, the Gekko fights Dewey, yadda yadda yadda, the killswitch is thrown...and Eureka becomes part of a new Control Cluster.

--Renton is understandably despondent about this development...for the very short time he's allowed to be, as Holland quickly gives him a needed pick-me-up. (Their interaction shows that Holland has grown up a hell of a lot throughout the series as well.) Renton soon resolves to do everything he can to get Eureka back, which culminates in him busting out of the Gekko in a Super-Nirvash and breaking through Eureka's tree-egg via the power of looooove. Cue massive "Awwww" as the boy gets the girl, the girl gets the boy, the planet is saved, and everyone gets to ride off into the sunset. Finis.]

Sorry, but I don't see much in there, outside of the span of parts of an episode or two, that could be called "Survivor," and I certainly don't see anything even remotely resembling Shinji. Unlike him, Renton actually has the fortitude to get-up-and-go when he has to, and his development culminates in full maturation by the end of the series. Shinji's still left havin' to choke a b**** at that point.

Yeah, pretty much what I remembered. I really do plan to watch it again, to see how I react this time. Maybe the martinis will help.

I have to admit, though, I had exactly the same reaction to Planetes, which is of course a completely different show. Somehow the structure and themes just felt the same, and again, the ending just went wonkie for me. I think I'm just too cynical Smile

When that happens, I feel really cheated of time, because I've invested so much of it... and here I am listening to the Ah My Goddess commentaries and killing time.

I'm pretty pumped for this. Although I'd be even more pumped if Bandai would ever release an Eureka 7 box set. They can even split up into two seasons if they want. I just really want a set of some description for this title.

ok yah my review on this movie...plain and simple....it was.....different......definitely not the same story as the original anime nor even close to the "spin off" manga they released.....

spoiler[infact...the roles are completely reversed on all parts....its basically a retelling of the entire story renaming the coralians as the "image" still claiming they are evil but this time they are sure they are and they show the gekko making its break off from the military with a catch....Eureka is being kept hostage basically by the military as a secret weapon of sorts and Renton is already on the gekko before the story even really starts....also.....Dominic is dead.....and older than Renton......Anemone is OLDER like 80+ and actually one of the Image this time not just a human counter part to eureka....also....Eureka has a weakeness to sun o.o....yah....she's basically made out to be a vampire so when she's out in sunlight her green skin appears form her transformation later on in the series....hmm...Renton actually owned Nirvash at the beginning this time and Nirvash is this little fairy like thing that actually has a voice making sounds and stuff and so is "the end" the nirvash imitation form the military. they reversed a lot of the roles like the gekko state is actually considered to be evil in this case because they wish to kill themself and allow the world to die with them where the military is actually good and tries to prevent the image from taking over as well as preventing holland (who kills dewy before the story even starts and takes on the name Dewy Novack commanding the gekko) umm Talho is actually pregnant from the start of the movie.....or atl east form the point that they show her in. and yah...this whole movie isnt ment for true Die hard fans of the eureka 7 movie in fact is was almost hard for me to watch it.....it was alright....but definitly not one of the movies i shall be getting if it ever makes its way to the states.....no offense to those that worked on this project....but you destroied eureka 7 with this movie....its almost as bad as the dragon ball live action.....both of them.....combined....BAD MAKING THE GEKKO EVIL IN THIS ONE! THEY BOTH DIE AT THE END!!!! RENTON ALMOST DIES FROM A GUNSHOT WOUND...AND EUREKA TAKES RENTON IN THE NIRVASH AND SUICIDES!!....I GOT PISSED AT THAT!!! YOU RUINED IT! YOU EVEN RUINED NIRVASH...YOU MADE IT OUT TO BE SOME MAGICAL MAGE LIKE THING AT THE END....NIRVASH DOES NOT HAVE A STAFF NOR DOES IT HAVE LITTLE FASHY BALLS THAT ATTACK ON THEIR OWN!]
