NEWS: Pretty Cure to Run on Canada's YTV in Early 2009

But what will our heroines snack on if not Akane's takoyaki?

Am I the only one who really doesn't mind name changes in a series like this? It's a kid show, and it's supposed to be set in modern-day _____, right? It's not like their names are essential to the plot, or there's a sense of foreign-ness that simply must be preserved. (Like with something like Full Metal Panic, or Naruto, respectively.)

Besides, what kid doesn't love having the same name as a superhero? Not that many Canadians named "Nagisa." Ha, maybe with this my Canadian friend will have a new pop-culture nickname aside from "Hannah Montana". :B

I agree with you Precure isn't all that good after all... the only reason toei wanted north america to license it is becuase after that then they'll have it shown in all continents of the world... (or to the ones that matter) but still i agree its kinda boring and outdated... I don't know why but toei's staff isn't all great at animation, just look at their version of kanon, air, and clannad... they suck at storytelling too!

Shugo Chara! I got hooked from the first episode... (actually from the catchy opening ) And I can tell, even if there are name changes and such, its gonna be BIG here!

I still regard Sailor Moon as one of the best animated programs shown on Canadian TV, and that includes the localization.

It's a simple fact that kids will relate more to names that are relatively familiar to them, rather than foreign, exotic names. Natalie and Hannah are a rather close fit. It's when they change entire story arcs or remove all weapons that it gets out of hand.

As long as they do as Sailor Moon and keep the story (more or less) intact, I don't think there'll be a problem, and the show might even become a success. There hasn't been a show like Sailor Moon, that caused a whirlwind craze up in Canada for girls (and a good number of boys for that matter), for a very long time.

As much as you all would like to moan about this, it's a show aimed for kids and should be treated as such. There's no content I can think of that would be offensive (besides the image of an anime David Bowie of course), and the plot is relatively simple as is.

Besides, regardless of the possibility of a Dual Language DVD release (or a DVD release at all for that matter), there's always the uncut official release on Crunchyroll.

I'm just going to ignore the whinging and say, bring it on YTV! It'll be fun to have a new magical girl show on YTV, it's been such a long time. Given it's a younger kids show, I don't imagine there'll be many edits, and I hope they dub the original theme song, but will be sure to tune in for whatever they do, and I hope it'll be a fun show to attract a new generation of anime fans yet again. I think people severly underestimate the importance of kids anime to the industry.

Toei does have a produced subtitled version lying around due to their Direct2Drive promotion, so I imagine that if anyone does license it for DVD, they *might* get access to both versions.

If it does get a dual-audio DVD release they should make the dub uncut.
