Super Conbini Find: Friend Bakery Cookies w/ Moe seal
Of all the things that define modern anime fandom, the moe phenomenon has become one of the most controversial. Most people either love it or hate it with a passion. I'm not really a fan of the genre (unless there's a really compelling plot involved), but even as a non-fan, I can appreciate a little bit of parody. Today's example:
Glico (the same folks that make this thing called Pocky... heard of it?) has been marketing their brand of cookies, Friend Bakery, with a series of seals that are included so that you can reseal the package in between snacking. This one makes fun of the moe phenomenon with a maid telling us to "Choi tabe!" or "have a small bite!".
Despite our mutual distrust of cute people in maid outfits who may or may not be psychotic killing machines, Justin and I decided to take the advice of the maid and have a cookie. Unfortunately, the quality of the cookie left quite a lot to be desired. It was dry, lacked any sort of chewiness, and had a bland flavor. I could picture a chocolate addict enjoying these, but for us, we are officially not "moe" for these cookies. I'm sorry, Glico, but you've only served to reinforce my distrust of maid characters. |
