Super Conbini Find of the Day: Purupuru Angel
by Evan Miller on Sun Mar 30, 2008 12:14 pm
The moment I saw the packaging for today's find, I knew I had a winner. Check it out:

I don't know whether to feel honored or threatened.

At the time, I was also pretty confused by the contents of the packaging itself. Here we have a box with a few non-descript plastic pieces. There was a more detailed description of the product on the back, but I decided to ignore it and just buy the thing. Besides, surprises are fun!

After assembling the "angel", I wasn't that impressed. The design doesn't have much flair - it's essentially a yellow ball attached to a blue cone. However, when you twist the head of the angel, the magic begins: the entire thing vibrates and you can use it as a mini-massager. The quality wasn't all that bad either; it was just as good as those pocket massage devices that cost 3 times as much when you get them at Brookstone.

However, as an anime fan, I can't help but feel a little disturbed by this product. Think about it: I'm essentially twisting the neck of some kind of "angel" that has no face. Perhaps the makers of this gadget were trying to make some really obscure Evangelion reference. Still, the product does have a useful function that makes it well worth the 500 yen I paid for it. Plus, it came in especially handy at TAF when we were monumentally stressed.
