Mr. Osomatsu Is 1st TV Anime in 15 Years With 2 #1 DVDs in a Row

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Last TV anime DVDs to do so were 2nd, 3rd volumes of Love Hina in 2000

The fifth DVD volume of the Mr. Osomatsu television anime sold 22,064 copies in its first week and topped Oricon's overall DVD chart for the May 23-29 week. This anime's DVD volume releases have topped the overall DVD ranking two times in a row, after topping the chart with the fourth DVD volume in April.

It has been 15 years since a television anime's DVD releases have topped the overall DVD chart two times in a row with the series' consecutive volume releases. The last series to do so was Love Hina's second (September 2000) and third (October 2000) volumes. Before that was To Heart's first (May 1999) and second (July 1999) volumes.

Fujio Akatsuka's original Osomatsu-kun manga and "high tension comedy" TV anime centered on the Matsuno household, which has six naughty and mischievous sons (who are sextuplets). All of the sextuplets, including the eldest Osomatsu, are all in love with the same girl, Totoko. The original series followed the family when the sons were 10 years old. The Mr. Osomatsu show re-imagines the original manga and TV anime with the sextuplets as adults.

The series premiered last October. Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired in Japan.
