Dragon Quest-Style TV Series Yūsha Yoshihiko Returns in October

posted on by Eric Stimson

TV Tokyo announced on Friday that a third season of the Yūsha Yoshihiko fantasy TV series will air in October.

Key visual from the first season

Yūsha Yoshihiko ("Yoshihiko the Hero") is a parody of Dragon Quest and other RPGs with fantasy settings. The plot involves Yoshihiko (Takayuki Yamada) and three companions — the warrior Danjo (Shin Takuma), the villager Murasaki (Haruka Kinami), and the magician Melub (Tsuyoshi Muro) — setting out on an epic quest to cure their land of a plague and fight demons. The first season, Yūsha Yoshihiko to Maō no Shiro ("Yoshihiko the Hero and the Demon King's Castle"), aired in 2011. The second season, Yūsha Yoshihiko to Akuryō no Kagi ("Yoshihiko the Hero and the Evil Spirit's Key"), followed in 2012 and is set a century later, when the lead characters are revived by Buddha to rid the land of demons once more.

The third season will be called Yūsha Yoshihiko to Michibikareshi Shichinin ("Yoshihiko the Hero and the Guided Seven") — likely a reference to Dragon Quest IV, which carried the subtitle The Guided Ones in Japan. Plot details remain unavailable, although the lead actors will reprise their roles. Yūichi Fukuda will return as director.

Although the date was announced recently, the announcement that a third season of Yūsha Yoshihiko was in the works came in April, at which time a horse-drawn carriage, complete with Slimes inside, appeared to promote the show in Shinjuku, Tokyo.
