Live-Action Kodoku no Gourmet's Summer Special Previewed in Video

New special to take place in Miyagi Prefecture

TV Tokyo began streaming a 15-second preview on Friday for the Kodoku no Gourmet (Solitary Gourmet) live-action special that will air this summer, tentatively titled "Kodoku no Gourmet Special! Tōhoku, Miyagi Shucchō-hen" (Solitary Gourmet Special! Tohoku, Miyagi Business Trip). In the video, the protagonist protagonist Goro Inagashira (played by returning actor Yutaka Matsushige) says "I'm violently hungry."

In the special episode, Goro will travel to Sendai and Onagawa, both cities located in Miyagi Prefecture.

The live-action franchise is based of Masayuki Kusumi and Jiro Taniguchi's manga of the same name. Both the series and the original manga follow a solitary salesman named Goro Inagashira as he travels all over Japan and samples the local cuisine found on street corners.

The live-action show's 10-episode first season premiered in January 2012. The latest fifth season aired in October-December 2015. The series previously aired a special episode on January 1 focused on Asahikawa, Hokkaido.

Kusumi and Taniguchi first serialized Kodoku no Gourmet from 1994 to 1996 in Fusosha's Monthly Panja magazine (now defunct). Kusumi handled the story, and Taniguchi drew the art. Fusosha published the first collected volume in 1997. Kusumi and Fusosha published the manga's second volume in September 2015.

The manga has been translated in eight languages. The now-defunct online manga site JManga once licensed the manga for North America and published a part of it in English.
