Japanese Fan Builds Impressive Gundam Model Using Only Legos

One dedicated Japanese fan, who goes by the handle JAN, has created an impressive model of the RX-78-2 Gundam using only Legos. The model took about 1.5 months to construct, and they worked on it for an average of two hours every day.

Even though the model is made of Legos, the joints move, and it can hold its beam rifle and prepare to fire. No adhesive was used to hold the Legos together, and none of the Lego parts were shaved down or cut apart and glued back together.

The exact dimensions of the model were not shared, but based on the photographs, it is quite large, probably at least two feet tall.

Text: "I made the RX-78-2 Gundam from Mobile Suit Gundam out of Legos! I concentrated all of the Lego-building skill that I currently have into putting it together. It isn't a perfect reproduction, just made to my own liking. I'm still trying to arrange the Legos in a suitable way, so the details are quite different from the original work."

Text: "I've spent all day tampering with the head, but I wonder if this is the limit for that area."

Text: "The eyes were made to be a little distinct."

Text: "The Lego Gundam is standing on the ground."

Text: "I'm indecisive about the detail for the shape of the shoulders, but for now it's something like this."

The RX-78-2 Gundam is the robot piloted by Amuro Ray in Yoshiyuki Tomino's original Mobile Suit Gundam anime, which first aired in 1979. It is also the same Gundam recreated as a 1:1 scale statue, which was completed in 2009 and currently stands in the DiverCity Tokyo Plaza in Odaiba, Tokyo.

The Gundam series has been highly influential, revolutionizing the mecha genre. The franchise includes anime, OAVs, films, manga, novels, video games, and an extensive toy line.

JAN's previous Lego creations include Orange Arms from Kamen Rider Gaim, Rem from Re:Zero, and the version of Ultraman from Eiichi Shimizu and Tomohiro Shimoguchi's recent manga.
