Sharp-san and Tanita-kun Get Their Own Theme Song Courtesy of Straightener

posted on by Eric Stimson
Song will be sold with second volume of manga

Sharp-san and Tanita-kun, the young male personifications of the companies Sharp and Tanita, have attracted a following through their Twitter exchanges and a manga imagining their interaction. Now the duo have another media milestone to celebrate: their own theme song, courtesy of the Japanese rock band Straightener.

In "Tsuki ni Yomu Tegami" ("A Letter Read by the Moon"), Straightener sings about the bond between Sharp-san and Tanita-kun. The lyrics begin "We look up at the same moon" and include lines like "Holding your hand as you laugh beside me" and "I want to scream, I want to scream, 'I love you!" The mascots approve of it, with Sharp-san saying that he "died five times" from the emotion and Tanita-kun saying that he felt like crying. The song was Tanita-kun's idea; he is a Straightener fan and arranged the song through Twitter interactions with Straightener's drummer, Shinpei Nakayama.

The song will be available on February 23 as a CD extra bundled with Sharp-san to Tanita-kun RT, the second volume of the four-panel manga starring the eponymous mascots. It will also be available as an instrumental version.
