Daisuki Adds Heavy Metal L-Gaim, Aura Battler Dunbine Anime

Video streaming service Daisuki added the Heavy Metal L-Gaim and Aura Battler Dunbine anime as subscriber exclusives this month. All 54 episodes of Heavy Metal L-Gaim and all 49 episodes of Aura Battler Dunbine are now streaming.

Daisuki describes the story of Sunrise's Heavy Metal L-Gaim:

In the binary solar system "Pentagona world," there is a remote planet called Koam. This is where the last of the royal Yarman family, Daba Myroad, will begin his ambitious journey, eventually becoming the leader of a rebel army and fighting the despot Oldna Posaydal, who destroyed his family.

The "heavy metal" mecha of the series, drawn with delicate curves that were unique for the time, make L-Gaim stand out. The series is blessed with the creative talent of multi-designer Mamoru Nagano, who would go on to make The Five Star Stories.

The television series aired in 1984 and was followed by a three-episode OVA series that recapped the series in its first two episodes and added an epilogue for its third.

Daisuki describes Aura Battler Dunbine:

Suddenly, Show finds himself dragged into the world of Byston Well, a realm in between the land and the sea. Once there, he faces endless days of war conducted with humanoid war machines named Aura Battlers. Confronted with the ambitions of those who seek to misuse aura power, the source of all strength, in their attempts to conquer both Byston Well and Upper Earth, Show and his like minded comrades stand against them. Can Show become a truly righteous Battler? Find out in the original fusion of the real robot and knightly fantasy genres!

Sunrise's 1983 series is an alternate retelling of Mobile Suit Gundam creator Yoshiyuki Tomino's first The Wings of Rean novel from the same year. It was followed by a three-episode OVA series titled Aura Battle Dunbine: The Tale of Neo Byston Well. The novel series would go on to inspire Garzey's Wing in 1996 and The Wings of Rean in 2005.

ADV Films licensed and released the series in North America.
