Film based on smartphone app opens in Japan on April 8

Japanese entertainment news website Cinema Today began streaming two teaser videos the Neko Atsume no Ie (Neko Atsume's Home) film based on Hit-Point's smartphone app Neko Atsume: Kitty Collector last week and on Wednesday. The first video features narration and scoring that emulates a Japanese horror film, while the second emulates Hollywood action blockbusters.

The movie opens in Japan on April 8.

The previously announced cast includes:

Atsushi Itou (live-action Densha Otoko television series, Flying Colors/Birigal) as Sakumoto, the protagonist and novelist

Shiori Kutsuna (Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV's Lunafreya) as Michiru, the protagonist's editor and the film's heroine

Tomoro Taguchi (live-action Gantz) as Asakusa, the heroine Michiru's senior editor

Tae Kimura (live-action Densha Otoko television series) as Yōko, a shopkeeper at a pet shop

Kayoko Ōkubo as an odd real estate agent

The film follows Sakumoto, a novelist who won a new writer award when he was younger and became a best-selling author. However, he has been dealing with writer's block lately. To turn over a new leaf, he moves to a tranquil new home, but he still remains downbeat. One day when he was at his wit's end, he looks out into the garden, where a cat shows up. Although Sakumoto tries talking to the cat, it goes away, and Sakumoto is downbeat again. That evening, he places dry cat food in a corner of the garden. The following morning, the food is gone, and all of a sudden, Sakumoto is intrigued.

Masatoshi Kurakata (Railways Ai o Tsutaerarenai Otona-tachi e, Game Center CX the Movie 1986 Mighty Bomb Jack) is directing the film. Yūji Nagamori planned and wrote the screenplay, and Mediand is producing.

The game has been downloaded over 19 million times worldwide since it debuted in October 2014.
