Makoto Fukami pens June 23 novel with illustrations by Kentarou Miura

The official website of the Berserk television anime confirmed the novel adaptation of Berserk on Friday. The novel is titled Berserk: Honō Ryū no Kishi (Berserk: The Flame Dragon Knight), and will have an original story focusing on the character Grunbeld (pictured below). The book is slated for June 23.

The post also reveals the cover of the manga's 39th compiled book volume (seen below right), which also ships on June 23.

Makoto Fukami is the novel's author, and original manga creator Kentarō Miura will also draw illustrations for the novel. Fukami is the series composition writer for the new Berserk series that premiered last year, as well as the continuation that premiered on April 7. Fukami also wrote the script for the Psycho-Pass television anime series and film, and the Resident Evil: Vendetta film. He is also a novelist known for the Young Gun Carnival light novel series.

Miura launched the manga in 1989, and Hakusensha published the 38th volume last June. Dark Horse began releasing the series in 2003, and the company will release the 38th volume on July 5. Dark Horse has sold 1.2 million copies of the manga. As of 2015, the series had more than 27 million copies in print in Japan and eight million copies in print in other countries.

The manga was adapted into a television anime series in 1997, as well as an anime film trilogy from 2012 to 2013.
