Mashima plans to start new work soon, wants to tell new story with new characters in new world

Hiro Mashima is revealing in the end notes section of the 61st compiled volume of his Fairy Tail manga on May 17 that he will end the series in two more volumes, or in the 63rd volume.

Mashima is also revealing that he plans to start a new work soon, and is excited about starting that new work. He also stated that he wants to tell a new story with new characters in a new world.

The official website for the Fairy Tail: Dragon Cry anime film revealed in February that the manga was in its last arc, and that the manga has more than 60 million copies in print worldwide.

The manga follows the adventures of world's most notorious mage guild, Fairy Tail. The manga launched in 2006 and has inspired two television anime, several original video anime projects, and spinoff manga. The franchise's first anime film, Fairy Tail the Movie: Phoenix Priestess, opened in Japan in August 2012.

The Fairy Tail: Dragon Cry film opened in Japan on May 6 at #10 at the Japanese box office.

Del Rey published the first 12 volumes of the original manga in North America, and Kodansha Comics resumed publishing the manga in English with the 13th volume in 2011. Crunchyroll streamed the second television anime into several countries as it aired in Japan, and Funimation has been releasing DVD/Blu-ray Disc sets.
