Akira's Katsuhiro Otomo Tribute Book Gets Exhibition

The OTOMO: A Global Tribute to the Mind Behind Akira book was released simultaneously in France and Japan in January and in North America in March. The book, which honors Katsuhiro Ōtomo's win at France's Angoulême International Comics Festival in 2015, contains 80 contributions from the creator's contemporaries. That artwork will go on display at the "Tribute to Otomo Exhibition" in Shibuya on June 3.

The exhibition will show the works of the likes of by Hiroyuki Asada (Tegami Bachi: Letter Bee), Hisashi Eguchi (Perfect Blue), Daisuke Igarashi(Children of the Sea), Atsushi Kamijou (To-Y), Masakazu Katsura (Video Girl Ai, I"S), Masashi Kishimoto (Naruto), Taiyo Matsumoto (Ping Pong), Minetarō Mochizuki (Dragon Head), Range Murata (Last Exile), Tsutomu Nihei (Knights of Sidonia), Yoshiyuki Sadamoto (Neon Genesis Evangelion), Masamune Shirow (Ghost in the Shell), Shōu Tajima(MPD-Psycho), Fumiko Takano (Kiiroi Hon), Takayuki Takeya(mechanical designer), Jiro Taniguchi (Kodoku no Gourmet), Katsuya Terada (Blood: The Last Vampire), Naoki Urasawa (Master Keaton, Monster), Sensha Yoshida (Utsurun Desu), Stan Sakai, and more. Some of the artwork will be unique to the event.

The event will run until June 18 on the eighth floor of the Tower Records building. Guests will give informative talks over the course of the event's run and commemorative goods are also planned. Visitors can view a VTR message from the creators, too.
