Bungō to Alchemist Smartphone Game Teases New Literary Figure

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

DMM Games' upcoming Bungō to Alchemist (Literary Masters and Alchemist) smartphone game teased its newest literary figure on Friday. If at least 200,000 people pre-register for the game, all players will receive the character.

The teased character has a "deep connection to Soseki Natsume," who is also a character in the game. Some net commenters believe the new writer character may be Masaoka Shiki or Lafcadio Hearn.

As of the posting of this article, the app version has received more than 160,000 pre-registrations. Players will already receive a variety of in-game items for the pre-registration campaign, and they will receive the character Sakutarō Hagiwara after the app reaches 180,000 pre-registrations.

The online version of the "literary transmigration simulation" game is already available. In the game, players purify tainted books with the help of Japanese literary figures. Players delve into ensouled books to gather new writers for the fight against Taints.

The game is inspiring a comic anthology, which will ship on June 15. Various artists and manga creators are contributing to the book.

Kafka Asagiri and Sango Harukawa's "battle action" manga Bungō Stray Dogs also centers around a league of literary figures with supernatural powers. The franchise is receiving its first smartphone game, which will feature all-new scenario and character side stories untold in the anime. The manga inspired two television anime seasons, and the "Hitori Ayumu" (Walk Alone) original video anime will ship on August 4.
