Kosaku Shima Series' Hirokane Draws 2 New Chapters of Hello Hari-nezumi Manga

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Hirokane debuted with series in Young Magazine's 1st issue in 1980

This year's 30th issue of Kodansha's Young Magazine is revealing on Monday that Kenshi Hirokane will publish two new chapters for his Hello Hari-nezumi (Hello Hedgehog) manga in the magazine's 32nd and 33rd issues on July 10 and 15, respectively.

Hello Hari-nezumi is Hirokane's debut manga. He launched it in July 1980 in the first ever issue of Young Magazine, where it ran until 1996. The manga centers on the various cases of protagonist Gorō Nanase, a detective in the "Akatsuka Detective Agency" in the Lower Akatsuka neighborhood in Tokyo's Itabashi ward.

The manga inspired a Japanese live-action film in 1991, as well as the Hello Harinezumi: File 170 Satsui no Ryōbun OVA in 1992, which Central Park Media released in North America with the title Domain of Murder. The manga also inspired a live-action television special in 1996, and a Taiwanese television drama in 2005. The manga is inspiring a new live-action series that premieres on TBS on July 14 at 10:00 p.m.

Aside from Hello Hari-nezumi, Hirokane is also drawing the Kōsaku Shima manga series. He is collaborating with manga creator Shin Kibayashi (Bloody Monday, The Knight in the Area, Drops of God, Kindaichi Case Files) to launch a new manga series in Kodansha's Morning magazine titled Shima Kōsaku no Jikenbo (Kōsaku Shima Case Files) on August 17.

Hirokane's Human Crossing manga spawned a 2003 television anime series. His "C-46 Seiun" (C-46 Nebula) manga also inspired a live-action television project in 2011.
