Final Fantasy Gets 'Farewell' Exhibition, Tribute Video Contest

Square Enix's Final Fantasy franchise kicked off its 30th anniversary in Yokohama earlier this year with posters, themed bento boxes and a projection mapping of a short Final Fantasy XIV film on the wall of the Yokohama Grand Intercontinental Hotel, and an exhibition of out-of-print and rare Final Fantasy Play Arts figures at the Yokohama Doll Museum.

The game company is continuing the celebration into next year with a "Farewell Exhibition" at Roppongi Hills Mori Tower on January 22. Details were announced at this year's Tokyo Game Show, and the presentation seems to indicate the main installments in the franchise, from the very first Final Fantasy to Final Fantasy XV will be represented at the exhibition.

The announcement also revealed Final Fantasy YL. This isn't a new video game, but a collaboration with Japan Railway East's Yamanote Line. More details will be announced in the future.

The anniversary will also include a voice actor drama reading at Nakano Sun Plaza on December 18 and 19. "Dissidia Final Fantasy SECRETUM -Himitsu-" will star Cloud Strife, Sephiroth, Squall Leonhart, and Tidus. Dissidia Final Fantasy is Square Enix's fighting arcade game that stars the protagonists and villains from the Final Fantasy franchise.

Finally, Square Enix announced an upcoming Final Fantasy fan tribute video contest and the series' first ever rollercoaster at Universal Studios Japan. More details about the contest will be announced later. The rollercoaster will open on January 19.
