Detective Conan 30th Anniversary Book is a Year and a Half in the Making

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

An anniversary book honoring Detective Conan creator Gōshō Aoyama took a year and a half to complete, in part because of the long list of colleagues that contributed to it. The book compiles congratulatory messages and illustrations by:

Aoyama himself is also offering new insights in the book. In a long-form interview, the manga artist discusses his career from its start in 1986 to now. Aoyama's editor also participated in a six-hour interview to discuss the entire creation process of Detective Conan. Fans can also get a behind-the-scenes look at Aoyama's work space and his favorite things down to his choice of stationery.

Shogakukan released the book on October 18 for 1,620 yen (US$14).

In August, Gōshō Aoyama's original Detective Conan manga became the first series in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine to reach its 1,000th chapter. The 21st Detective Conan anime film, Meitantei Conan Kara Kurenai no Love Letter (Detective Conan: Crimson Love Letter), opened in Japan on April 15 and earned the highest opening weekend record for the franchise. An attraction inspired by the series will open at Universal Studios Japan beginning in January.
