Hatsune Miku AMG Wins 3rd GT300 Season Title for Good Smile Racing

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

Good Smile Racing and Team Ukyo pulled ahead to earn their third GT300 season title on November 12. Drivers Nobuteru Taniguchi and Tatsuya Kataoka returned for the team to race a Mercedes-AMG GT3, which featured a Hatsune Miku design as always.

Although the Hatsune Miku AMG placed third in the final race of the season, the team earned a total of 97 points for the series to earn the championship. The drivers commented on their success.

Taniguchi:

To tell the truth, I feel more relief than happiness. We came to Motegi as the ranking leader, but in fact we were struggling and had no confidence in our advantage at all. While our team happened to be in the best position, in fact we have been working hard to avoid the worst possible situations. Today as well, things turned bad and we had to work hard with a strategy of hanging on to finish 3rd, but in the end the result was fortunate and we got the championship.

Kataoka:

I am very happy. Today, it turned out that our job was to run away from pole position and hold on, and because I was able to communicate well with the GT500 class drivers, I was in a very comfortable position to drive and get to the finish as hoped. We won in the opening round and then, by struggling through the development work, we were able to win the championship.

Good Smile CEO Takanori Aki returned as team owner, and Ukyo Katayama again managed the team sponsored by figure maker Good Smile Company this year. The team revealed this year's Hatsune Miku design for the AMG GT3 in December, and the car debuted in February. The team won the initial Okayama International Circuit race of the season on April 9. This year marked the first time that the team won the race since 2014.

Good Smile Racing previously won the Super GT series in 2011 and 2014. Taniguchi drove for the team for both wins, and Kataoka also shared the accomplishment with him in 2014. Good Smile Racing promotes itself as "racing with the fans" and offers its sponsors rewards featuring the annual Racing Miku design.
