Dragon Zakura Two Manga Launches in January

posted on by Karen Ressler
Original Dragon Zakura manga ran 2003-2007, inspired live-action adaptations

This year's 52nd issue of Kodansha's Morning magazine announced on Wednesday that Norifusa Mita (Investor Z) will launch a manga titled Dragon Zakura Two in next year's eighth issue on January 25.

The story takes place in 2020, where the biggest country-wide matter is not the Tokyo Olympics but college entrance exam reform. The next big change in the education system after the Meiji education system and the postwar democracy education system has arrived. As a result, society will change. Before this, the magazine teases the return of "that man."

The original Dragon Zakura manga follows an ex-biker gang member and lawyer who restarts his life as a teacher at a rough high school.

The 2003-2007 Kodansha Manga Award-winning Dragon Zakura manga has been adapted into a Japanese television drama in 2005, with a sequel in 2010, and a Korean live-action television series in 2010. Mita's Angel Bank: Dragon Zakura Gaiden manga was also adapted into a Japanese drama in 2010. Nikkei reported in 2015 that China's Alibaba group was producing its own live-action drama.
