Attack on Titan's Wit Studio Animates 2018 Pokémon Film With OLM

July film's teaser shows new character from director Tetsuo Yajima, deisgner Shizue Kaneko

The official website for the Pokémon anime films began streaming a teaser trailer for the franchise's 2018 film on Monday. The teaser shows a new character, the film's July 13 opening, and the text "Everyone's story begins."

The teaser credits Wit Studio (Attack on Titan, Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress) with animation production along with the franchise's mainstay studio Oriental Light and Magic. Wit Studio was credited with assisting on animation production along with several other studios on previous Pokémon films, but not as a main studio on animation production on the films before. Tetsuo Yajima, the director of this year's Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You!, is returning to direct the next film, and Shizue Kaneko (If Her Flag Breaks, Pan de Peace!) is designing the characters.

Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You! (Gekijōban Pocket Monster: Kimi ni Kimeta!), the previous film in the franchise, had its world premiere at the Japan Expo 2017 event in Paris on July 6. The movie then opened in Japan on July 15 and earned 516 million yen (about US$4.61 million) in its first two days to rank at #1 at the box office.

Fathom Events screened the film in collaboration with The Pokémon Company International in the United States, United Kingdom, and other international markets outside of Asia on November 5 and 6. The film had encore screenings in the United States on November 11 and November 14. The film's total box office gross in the United States is US$2,401,722 as of November 16. The film aired on Disney XD in the United States on November 25.
