Things Get Emotional in Mazinger Z: Infinity Film's Ending MV

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
I'm not crying, you're crying

Is there something in my eye or is it just the sweat of burning robot passion? Mazinger Z: Infinity's ending theme song music video, performed by Koji Kikkawa, indulges in all the intense emotions mecha anime are known for. In just two minutes, you'll relive the pressure placed on Koji Kabuto to pilot the Mazinger, save the world from incoming destruction, and maybe even fail?!

The music video includes a scene from the original 1972 anime series and the current film. The song is titled "Last Letter" and serves as a metaphoric send off to the show.

The single will go on sale in Japan on January 10, three days before the film opens throughout Japan. Mazinger Z Interval Peace manga artist Kaoru Osada drew the CD's jacket art. Ichirō Mizuki is returning to the franchise to perform the film's opening theme song, which is an updated version of his opening theme song for the original series. Mizuki has also performed theme songs for Mazinger Z tai Ankoku Daishōgun, Mazinger Z Vs. Devilman, Mazinger Z Vs. Dr. Hell, Great Mazinger, and Great Mazinger tai Getter Robo G - Kūchū Dai-Gekitotsu.

The film serves as a sequel to the anime series, taking place 10 years after the final episode. Toei Animation describes the completely original story:

Humanity was once in danger of its downfall at the hands of the Underground Empire, which was led by the evil scientist Dr. Hell. Koji Kabuto piloted the super robot Mazinger Z, and with help from his friends at the Photon Power Laboratory, he thwarted Dr. Hell's evil ambitions and returned peace to the world.
It's been ten years since then... No longer a pilot, Koji Kabuto has taken after his father and grandfather by starting down the path of the scientist. He encounters a gigantic structure buried deep beneath Mt. Fuji, along with a mysterious indication of life...
New encounters, new threats, and a new fate await mankind. The former hero Koji Kabuto has a decision to make about the future: whether to be a god or a demon...
This grand action film depicts the fierce battle fought by the people and Mazinger Z--once again entrusted with the future of mankind!

The 12th Rome Film Fest hosted the world premiere of the film in Italy on October 28, with a theatrical opening in Italy on October 31. The film opened theatrically in France on November 22. Viz Media will release the film in the United States in 2018.

The film is commemorating the 45th anniversary of the original Mazinger Z manga and television anime series. Toei Animation is producing the project, and Toei will distribute the film.
