1st part of shorts to tell secret formation story of idol unit TRIGGER

The official Twitter account for the IDOLiSH7 franchise announced on Saturday that the anime series is inspiring a spinoff series of anime shorts. The series of shorts will stream exclusively on YouTube as a "YouTube Original." Bandai Visual is streaming a teaser video for the shorts.

The "first part" of the shorts, titled "TRIGGER ~before The Radiant Glory~," will tell the secret formation story of the older idol group TRIGGER, and will launch "soon."

The main IDOLiSH7 television anime will premiere in Japan on January 7, and the broadcast will begin with episode 3. In addition, the anime's first two episodes will air together as a special that will premiere on Tokyo MX on January 1 at 8:00 p.m.

The advance screening version of the anime's first two episodes opened in 79 theaters in Japan and began streaming in Japan on November 3. Crunchyroll began streaming the episodes worldwide outside Asia on the same day. The first two episodes also screened early at Anime NYC in the United States on November 18.

Crunchyroll describes the series:

A group of aspiring idols gather at Takanashi Productions and are entrusted with the company's future. The seven men who have just met represent a variety of totally different personalities. However, they each have their own charm and possess unknown potential as idols. Forming a group, they take their first step together as "IDOLiSH7." Their brilliantly shining dancing forms onstage eventually begin captivating the hearts of the people. In the glorious but sometimes harsh world of idols, they aim for the top with dreams in their hearts!

The cast members for the IDOLiSH7 and TRIGGER idol groups are reprising their roles from the game for the anime. Makoto Bessho (Shangri-La, Armitage: Dual-Matrix) is directing the anime at TROYCA. Ayumi Sekine (Makura no Danshi, Fate/Grand Order: First Order) is supervising the anime's scripts. Kazumi Fukagawa (Inari Kon Kon, GLASSLIP animation director) is adapting Arina Tanemura's original character designs for animation. Ei Aoki (Fate/Zero, Aldnoah.Zero) is credited as supervisor.

The anime will have 17 episodes.
