Junji Ito 'Collection' Anime Creeps Onto Fans' Fingernails in Tokyo

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

Venus Rico Nail Salon, known for offering anime-themed nails, is partnering with Junji Ito "Collection" for its latest fingernail art. The nail salon in Tokyo's Akihabara district began offering special collaboration designs on Wednesday.

The collaboration is offering two sets of nails for three characters, for a total of six sets designed for the horror series. Fans can have the designs painted on their actual fingernails or choose to receive the designs on artificial nails. Treatments range in price from 12,960 yen (about US$117) to 21,600 yen (about US$195).

The anime adapts stories from both the 11-volume Itō Junji Kessaku-shū (Junji Ito Masterpiece Collection) series and the Fragments of Horror book, and it premiered on January 5. Kanagawa Prefecture Red Cross Blood Center launched a promotion with the anime on January 6, and the series' characters also debuted in a haunted house attraction in Tokyo on January 11.
