Manga inspired now-airing TV anime, upcoming live-action film

This year's 12th issue of Shogakukan's Big Comic Spirits magazine revealed on Monday that Jun Mayuzuki's Koi wa Ameagari no youni manga will end in two more chapters, not including the chapter published on Monday. The manga won't appear in the magazine's 13th issue, and will resume in the 14th issue.

The manga centers on 17-year-old high school student Akira Tachibana, a girl who barely expresses herself. She harbors a secret crush on Masami Kondō, the 45-year-old manager of the family restaurant she works at part-time.

Mayuzuki launched the manga in Shogakukan's Monthly Big Comic Spirits in 2014, before it transferred to Weekly Big Comic Spirits in early 2016, where it serializes a new chapter every other week. Shogakukan published the manga's ninth volume on November 10. The manga has 1.9 million copies in print.

The manga won the Best General Manga award at the 63rd Shogakukan Manga Awards in January. The manga was nominated for the ninth Manga Taisho awards in 2016, and was ranked #4 in the 2016 edition of Takarajimasha's Kono Manga ga Sugoi! (This Manga Is Amazing!) guidebook.

The manga's 12-episode television anime adaptation premiered on January 11 on the Noitamina programming block on Fuji TV. The show is streaming exclusively on Amazon Prime Video inside and outside of Japan, with the English title After the Rain.

The manga is also inspiring a live-action film that will premiere in Japan on May 25.

Update: The manga now has 1.9 million copies in print.
