Kotoyama's Dagashi Kashi Manga Ends in 3 Chapters

Author had already planned layout for manga's finale in February

This year's 17th issue of Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine is revealing on Tuesday that Kotoyama's Dagashi Kashi manga will end in three chapters. If the manga doesn't take a break, it will end in the 20th issue on April 11.

In the author's note for the manga's 10th volume, which shipped on February 16, Kotoyama noted that he had already planned the layout for the manga's finale, and stated that there wasn't much longer left until the end of the series.

Kotoyama began the series in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine in June 2014. The manga has 3 million copies in print as of February, and it was nominated for the 41st annual Kodansha Manga Awards in 2017. The series' 11th volume will ship on May 18, and it will have a special edition that bundles a figure.

The first 12-episode television anime adaptation premiered in January 2016. Funimation streamed the series with subtitles as it aired in Japan, and also streamed an English dub. The company released the anime on DVD and Blu-ray Disc in April 2017.

Funimation describes the story:

Kokonotsu “Coconuts” Shikada dreams of becoming a famous manga artist. The only problem—he's terrible. His real talent is selling the complex and delicious snacks in his father's “dagashi” shop. He never thought much about the family business until the trendy, eccentric Hotaru showed up. As a lover of “dagashi,” she can't let his talent go to waste and decides she won't stop 'til she's sold him on sweets.

The second 12-episode season premiered on January 7. Each 15-minute episode airs in a shared timeslot with Takunomi. Crunchyroll and Funimation are streaming Dagashi Kashi 2 as it airs in Japan.
