posted on by Karen Ressler
The official Twitter account for Jūshinki Pandora (Heavy Divine Unit Pandora), the latest television anime from Shoji Kawamori (Macross, Escaflowne, Aquarion) announced on Friday that Bump of Chicken will perform the anime's opening theme song "Sirius" and the ending theme song "Spica." The staff began streaming a third promotional video that previews the opening theme.
The Twitter account also confirmed the roles for the following cast members:
Yūichi Nakamura as Sieg
Takayuki Kondou as One
Kaito Ishikawa as Four
Akira Ishida as Ron Woo
Netflix will exclusively stream the anime in Japan starting on March 29. A "worldwide release" on Netflix is also in development. The anime will then premiere on television on Tokyo MX on April 4 at 11:30. The anime will also air on WOWOW and BS11 on April 6, and on MBS on April 7.
The previously announced cast includes:
Nao Toyama as Chloe Lau, the "little sister" who supports Leon. She lives with Leon after his banishment from Neo Xianglong. Although they are not related by blood, she thinks of him like a big brother.
Kana Hanazawa as Queenie Yō, a beautiful warrior who lost everything. She is a bounty hunter, and searching for strength, she becomes a cool kenpō practitioner. She once trained at a dojo in the mountains. She is on a journey to find the target of her revenge.
Kenjiro Tsuda as Dag Horvat, a sniper who loves women and cats. He is the moodmaker who is always smiling and joking, but his eyes are sharp and cold like a beast, aiming for his prey when he is a sniper. He now earns a living as a bounty hunter, and lives with his cat who never leaves his side.
Unshō Ishizuka as Kane I. Hassan, the backbone of Pandora. He is a former mercenary who originated from a private military company, but is now an officer in Pandora. He is lively, has a strong sense of duty, and cares for his men deeply. He is a heavy pepper junkie.
Yuichiro Umehara as Jey Yun, a cold-blooded staff officer. He is the ministerial secretary of Neo Xianglong, and has served Cecile since before the Xianglong Crisis. He considered his colleague and school friend Leon as a rival, but has distrusted him since the reactor incident.
Ai Kayano as Cecile Sue, the woman who governs Neo Xianglong. She is a young genius who took over as governor of Neo Xianglong after her father died in the Crisis. She was a driving force behind the formation of Pandora, and leads the defense forces herself as its commanding officer.
In addition, Asami Seto and Mamiko Noto will play as-yet unannounced roles in the anime.
On the day the Xianglong (Shanron or Soaring Dragon) Crisis occurred in 2031, Leon Lau was right in the middle of the unfolding events. The Quantum Reactor, a next generation energy device developed to replace dwindling environmental resources, exploded and unleashed an unknown energy. As a result, the global environment changed overnight. Living things (besides humans) and machines each underwent their own unique evolution, and the B.R.A.I. (Biological Revolutionary of Accelerated Intelligence) entities in particular evolved and came into being. Because of them, humanity was driven to the brink of extinction. Humans fight the B.R.A.I with M.O.E.V. (Multi-purpose Organic Evolution Vehicle) variable units.
Seven years after the Xianglong Crisis, Leon is in the wilderness on the edge of the "absolute defense city" Neo Xianglong. Living with Chloe Lau under a "family pact," he conducts his own research to counter the B.R.A.I. The awkward Leon and the busybody Chloe. They live day-by-day as if to forget the past for the moment. However, threats unrelentingly draw near.
Hidekazu Sato (Basquash!, Nobunaga the Fool, Aquarion Logos) is directing the anime at the studio Satelight. Toshizo Nemoto (Log Horizon, Macross Delta) is in charge of the scripts, and Risa Ebata (Macross Frontier, AKB0048) is drafting the original character designs. Kawamori himself is credited for the original work (with Satelight), for the Jūshinki mechanical designs, and as chief director. Kawamori emphasized that this project will not feature songs, unlike his previous works like Macross and AKB0048.
