Girls und Panzer Restricts Production, Sales of Unofficial Goods

Franchise restricts duplicates of official merchandise, derivative works, self-produced merchandise

The official Twitter account of the Girls und Panzer franchise announced on June 7 that it is restricting sales of unofficial goods, and will consider the production and sale of duplicates of official merchandise, derivative works (including dōjinshi), and self-produced merchandise as copyright infringement. The Twitter account also urged people to not purchase these unofficial goods.

Kurashiki City police and the cybercrime prevention unit of the Okayama prefectural police arrested a 33-year-old man in November for allegedly making and selling stickers bearing the school crests from the anime without the copyright holder's permission.

The latest entry in the franchise is the first film in the Girls und Panzer das Finale film series, which opened last December. The film earned 145,981,740 yen (about US$1.28 million) to rank #4 at the Japanese box office in its opening weekend.

The Girls und Panzer der Film anime film followup to the original Girls und Panzer television anime opened in Japan in November 2015.

The franchise also recently spawned the Girls und Panzer Dream Tank Match PlayStation 4 game. Bandai Namco Entertainment released the game in Japan on February 22, and released the game on February 27 in Southeast Asia with English text and Japanese voice-over.
